I would characterize ‘Inglorious Basterds’ as a spaghetti western style, alternative reality WW II movie. The characters in the movie definitely live up to its name. The story is oddly interesting, and there are several plot twists and turns that add suspense. I had to laugh a few times, not because of silly humor, but because of the absurdity of certain situations. The acting was so good that it was hard to tell if the movie was trying to be serious or spoof. Classic Tarantino!
Once again, the trailer leads you to believe the movie is different than what it actually is. Rather than being about human-alien interaction, 'District 9' is about the treatment of refugees. You could substitute humans for the aliens, and the story would be virtually the same. It's about urban discord, cultural clash, communication difficulty, prejudice, government control, genocide, etc. It has great, realistic CGI, but the action starts out slow, in a documentary style, then switches back and forth throughout the movie. It is contradictory, strange, odd, and weird, with a to-be-continued type ending, but it is interesting. If you see it, expect the unexpected.
Although ‘(500) Days of Summer’ is the world’s longest set-up for a punch line (which was a good one), and the story is the well-worn boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl plot, it’s still fun to watch Zooey Deschanel in her typical quirky but lovable, enigmatically attractive girl role. Jumping around in time made the story hard to follow, but the point may have been to give the audience the same sense of confusion that the male lead had. Even so, there is enough relationship analysis, and oddball humor to lighten your mood to make the movie worth seeing.
‘A Perfect Getaway’ is a little too slow for most of the first hour or so. It’s filmed in a great location, and the plot is intriguing enough, but the movie could have been great if top tier actors would have been used, especially in the lead roles. The acting wasn’t bad, but the choice of actors gives a ‘B’ movie feel that the story and location don’t deserve. Even so, it’s not a movie to be avoided. Just don’t expect perfection.
'Aliens in the attic' is a good movie for all ages. The kids' acting was good, the writers didn't resort to potty humor to be funny, and yet it wasn't by any means bland. It could have almost been rated 'G', but then kids probably wouldn't want to see it. This movie reminded me of what Disney movies used to be like. You can take kids or go without any if you just want to see a cute, funny movie without all the crudeness of most of today's comedies.
‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’ has manly men, beautiful women, great visual effects, lots of action, a little humor, adequate acting for the genre, enough plot twists to be interesting, and worldwide locations. All the necessary elements for a decent action/adventure movie. If this is your type of movie, it’s worth seeing, even if only to take your mind off your everyday life for a couple of hours.

If you find delight in any of these things, you have something to like about ‘Julie & Julia’. If you like several of those things, I don’t see how you could not enjoy this motion picture immensely, as I did. It’s a thoroughly charming movie.
This is, at best, a minimally adequate, action/adventure, preteen kid’s movie. Nothing much for adults. The animation was good, but stereotypes were used instead of real character development, and the non-animated actors’ potentials were sadly wasted, as they sleepwalked their way through their parts. If your seven to twelve year-old-kids kids beg you to see it, go ahead, it won’t kill you. Otherwise skip it.
This movie has a few good laughs, but is mostly a downer. It’s more of a movie about how sad a comedian’s life is off-stage. Sort of a ‘tears of a clown’ theme. The numerous cameos were great, but the crude language and way too many male anatomy ‘jokes’ were a big negative. Could have been much better. It's an OK movie to see, but if you’re looking for an uplifting movie, definitely skip ‘Funny People”.
'The Collector' is pretty good for its TYPE of movie. I think a lot of people were disappointed because they were expecting something different. It's the story of a man who unintentionally gets involved in a bizarre kidnap/maim/torture/murder plot by a warped deviant. It's not supposed to be pleasant. The biggest complaint I have about the movie is the poor quality of film used. the picture was grainy and poorly focused at times. See only if you are still willing after knowing what you are getting into.
