'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' is definitely geared toward the pre-teen and early teen crowd. It is very juvenile oriented, with lots of potty humor, nasal debris jokes, and other forms of gross out attempts. I don't recommend that anyone take their kids to see it (even though they would probably enjoy it) because it also displays examples of prank playing, bullying, and other bad behavior. The lead character was a good example of what happens to kids who have an undeserved overly high self esteem.
'The Bounty Hunter' was okay, but there's no need to add it to your list of must see movies. Considering the quality of the lead actors, I was expecting the movie to be above average in quality, but sadly, it wasn't. Everything about it was average or below. It won't pain you to see it, but it won't give you much pleasure either.
I found Tim Burton's version of "Alice in Wonderland" to be as good as I could imagine. Since I am lacking in the creativity department, I was very impressed by the creativity and imagination that went into the making of this movie. The acting and choice of actors couldn't have been better. Although I saw it in 3D, this movie is good enough on its own merits to see without the 3D. I believe that any adult who is young at heart will enjoy this movie immensely.
'Green Zone' is one of the most intense two hours I've ever spent watching a movie. The plot, acting, and filming were all great. If you can remember that it is a fictional conspiracy theory story (although not totally unbelievable), and not let political beliefs get in the way, you will see a very good movie!
'Shutter Island' is a great study of mind over matter. What is real, and what is imaginary? The movie is so well done that it may leave you questioning your own view of reality. The casting is perfect, and the acting superb. The elements of federal officers, mid-twentieth century psychology, WWII aftereffects, a former prison island, and a huge storm, were woven together beautifully into a wonderful atmosphere of mystery, danger, and suspense. If you are not easily confused, I think you will love this movie. I think that most of the people who didn't like it couldn't figure out what had happened, or couldn't reconcile the ending with the rest of the movie. I did, and I loved it!
And so is told a tragic tale at Blackmoor in England. - 'The Wolfman' is a classic style monster movie. It has the same atmosphere as the original from 1941. Even the visual effects are for the most part old school. It really takes you back to monster movies of old. The difference is that the costumes and sets are more accurate and detailed than the old movies. A great re-make, with good acting, and plot twists to make it fresh. It brings the original up to date, but retains the old flavor. Very enjoyable.
'The Book of Eli' was not as good as I had expected from the trailers, but was fairly good none the less. It started out dreary and slow, but got better as hidden information was revealed as the story progressed. At the end of the revelation process though, I was left with a feeling of 'what's the point?'. It is, however, a highly stylized type of film, which I find enjoyable.
'Legion' is good for it's type of movie. As often happens, the prior to opening hype misled us into thinking it was going to be something other than what it was. I now see it as an old style, campy, eclectic group of misfits against the forces of evil type movie. The special effects were corny at times, but fit with the old time ambiance. If you see it, it would help to leave preconceived notions behind.
'When in Rome' is a good, lighthearted and fun romantic comedy. If you're in a good mood, you'll find it funny, and if you have any romance in you, you can't help but find it romantic. It's not one of the best movies ever, but good for light diversion.
'Dear John' has good characters and acting, but the story seems to be about two people who fall in love, then spend the next several years making wrong choices with their lives, keeping themselves apart. There is romance involved, but it is by no means uplifting.
