"Body of Lies" attempts to show how how all sides of a conflict, whether enemy or ally, lie to and use each other for their own agendas. The story was a little too simple, and some situations not believable enough for a good spy thriller, but I enjoyed the realism of the locations and the attention to detail. Overall, it is worth watching.
If it wasn't for the fact that "Flash of Genius" was based on an interesting true story, I would say it moves too slowly, but it did have a lot of time to cover. It shows that right can overcome might, but it also shows at what cost. The acting was good, with moments of comedy and poignancy. I would recommend seeing this movie.
I found many of the premises in "Nights in Rodanthe" too hard to believe. People of the ages of Gere and Lane acting like love-struck teenagers was hard to relate to. Not enough time was spent developing any of the relationships, which made them appear forced. The movie dragged on after the event that should have been the ending, apparently just to add time for more over emoting. Not a bad movie. Just not very good.
An American Carol is slow at times, but overall pretty good. It it mostly comedy, but also makes use of the Christmas Carol format (the 3 spirits) to make good points about how different our country would be if we listened to the people who are always complaining about the USA. Intelligent political satire wrapped in lowbrow humor.
'Igor' was a somewhat cute movie with enjoyable animation, but I would have been disappointed had I paid to see it instead of using the free ticket I had. It would be better to rent the DVD. I would recommend against young children seeing it because of the violence it contains.
Non-stop action, suspension, and intrigue. Of course it has all been done before, but this movie did it very well. The previews definitely make it look worth seeing, but there is much more to "Eagle Eye" than what the previews show. One actor, who was not mentioned as one of the stars of the movie, added a lot of character, even though he only had a small part. This movie should be seen by everyone, as it an accurate depiction of the way current technology and our government could easily take us if we aren't very careful. Having said that, I must emphasize that "Eagle Eye" is great entertainment, and does not give one the feeling that it is selling an agenda.
If you are offended by crudeness, vulgar language, and promiscuity, you will be offended by "My best Friend's Girl". If you like those things, or if you can disregard them enough to get into the story, then the movie is very funny and worth seeing. The adversarial relationship eventually turning into love between Alexis (the always adorable Kate Hudson) and Tank (Dane Cook) was romantic in its twisted way, and was reminiscent of Cary Grant type movies, less the refinement of those times of course.
Too much of the movie was shown in the previews. However, Lakeview Terrace is still worth seeing to find out the reasons for what happened, and how it ended. While the race issue was explored from a refreshingly different perspective, we also discover the reason behind the racism, which is proven by the way the conflict between the neighbors ended. Samuel Jackson plays the part of an angry and somewhat schizophrenic neighbor very well, as you would expect from him. Definitely worth seeing.
Ghost Town was slow at times, but overall charming and funny. There were situations that have been done many times before that were done in new and refreshing ways in this movie. I especially liked the way that ghosts "going into the light" was handled.
Even though this movie had a some very funny lines, it is definitely not a "comedy". It is a story of life, and learning from the ups and downs involved in it. The main complaint I have seen in the reviews is that it is "predictable". If so, what is wrong with that? It's nice to see a movie where good things happen to good people once in a while. Well done! Very touching.
