Farewell Soul Man

'Soul Men' starts out with the all the character of a cheap made-for-TV movie, but for the most part gets better as it goes along. It wasn't one of Bernie Mac or Samuel Jackson's best movies, but it did have several funny and touching moments. I was surprised by their singing and their dance moves (especially Jackson's). I think they actually would have made a good back up group in real life. The music and the flashbacks brought back memories, but seeing the movie after Hayes and Mac's deaths made the lines about old age and death very ironic and sad. Go see their last movie, and stay for the very nice dedication after the movie. Bernie was a good man and will be missed.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Funny Movie

'Role Models' is unexpectedly funny. The one thing that struck me as strange was that young kids were in situations and using language that would be inappropriate for for them to see in a movie. I guess it was bound to happen if movies mirror society. Beyond that, it is definitely worth seeing for some good laughs.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Commendable

'Changeling' is a very poignant true story. The acting, especially by some of the supporting actors, is very good. Eastwood's directing is the best. The shear amount of period buildings and vehicles, etc. is amazing. If you don't make the mistake (as I did) of by being distracted by some small details being too modern or out of place for the time, you will give it five stars.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

'Zack and Miri make a porn0' very nearly lived up to its title. Even though there was a lot of unnecessary profanity, the first part of the movie was very funny. Seth Rogen was being Seth Rogen, which is always funny. After they decided to make the porn however, it still contained some humor, but turned into being more about trying to see how far the "R" rating could be pushed. Unfortunately, the romantic side of the movie seemed a bit out of place, given the setting. Still, as long as you know what you are in for, it is good for a few laughs.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

'The Duchess' was a good movie visually, but left me feeling indifferent. The attention to detail gave the feeling of actually seeing life in the late 1700's, which you will probably enjoy if the history of the period is new to you. Keira Knightley was okay as the duchess, but I believe the movie could have been better with an actress with a more commanding presence.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Almost Good

I would have given ‘Pride and Glory’ four stars, except for two (in my opinion) flaws. The first, due to personal taste, is the use of hand held cameras and visible focusing, which makes the filming look amateurish. I’m sure it was done to give the film a look of realism, e.g. the TV show ‘Cops’, but I didn’t like it. The other is that the story was fairly plausible until near the end, when the actions of Ray (Norton) and Jimmy (Farrell) became uncharacteristic, which caused events to turn a little far-fetched. Other than that, the acting was very good, and the action enjoyable.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Not super bad

From reading other reviews, it would appear that young people and those who possibly have only seen a few movies like "SEXDRIVE" find it very good. It is funny at times, but does have many slow and lame parts also. If you are older, you may enjoy it if you don't have high expectations.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I loved it

The best I can do to help decide whether to see Max Payne is to say that: it is not a video game, it is not a reality show, but it is highly stylized, and for good reason. The darkness, drabness, and use of ominous music during most of the movie did an excellent job of paralleling Max's mood, which was caused by the loss of the two people he loved most. I personally thought the camera angles and slow motion shots were very good. Of course it has all been done before, but what hasn't? The acting and special effects were not great, but very adequate. My recommendation is that if you are willing to take a chance, see it. It could be one of the worst movies you will see this year, or it could be one of the best. For me it was the latter.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Nick & Nora's movie was not as funny as I had expected from the previews. The young nerds romance and gross drunk girl scenes will probably appeal to the young crowd, but the 'boy loses girl / gets girl back' theme happened too many times for one movie, which made it slow and boring at times. I don't recommend seeing this movie, but I don't recommend against it. It's not that bad.

Very good "overcoming the odds" movie. It could have used fewer scrimmage scenes for those of us who are not that into sports. Even so, the story of Ernie Davis is one well worth seeing.
