Does 'Yes Man' have some funny jokes and slapstick comedy? Yes Will you like it if you liked previous Jim Carrey movies? Yes Is it a cute romantic comedy? Yes Is there anything new and different? Yes Is this the best movie ever? No Should you see it anyway? YES!
'Punisher: War zone' is a dark and gritty shoot-'em-up movie with a simple plot and plenty of gore. In the midst of all that, some parts were actually touching. It also had some dialog and gore effects that were so unreal that they were actually funny. As long as you know that going in, it's not so bad. If you can enjoy it for what it is, see it.
‘Transporter’ is movie with lots of action, but with too much contrivance used getting the players into situations that require fighting, driving, and/or the removal of clothing. In addition, it would have better if our intelligence wouldn’t be insulted with unbelievable scenarios such as a man having the ability to beat up a dozen men at once, but can’t get his car keys away from one intoxicated girl. All in all, nothing to get excited about. Just a short break from reality.
The story was great, the landscapes were wonderful, the depictions of buildings and equipment of the time period were marvelous, and most of the acting was tremendous. The one thing that kept ‘Australia’ from being a truly great movie for me was that Nicole Kidman didn’t seem up to the task for the most part. She appears to be more of a celebrity than a true actress. Perhaps it’s just that I have been spoiled by the talent of those of the past, so don’t let it stop you from seeing this film. I can’t help but wonder however, what ‘Australia’ could have been with someone like a young Katherine Hepburn playing the part!
‘Four Christmases’ has the kind of humor you would expect from Vince Vaughn, and he and Reese Witherspoon play well off each other. I found it funnier than expected, as it took comedy to new depths (it’s not a movie for kids) without being overly gross and disgusting. Everyone in the theater found parts of the movie that made them laugh.
‘Bolt’ is a very cute and heart-warming story, with good animation and very detailed graphics. The voice acting portrayed the emotions of the characters very well, and the animators did an excellent job of showing body language and facial expressions, which together gave them very believable personalities. I actually caught myself having feelings for animated characters as though they were real. The songs in the movie are icing on the delicious cake. Read the Hollywood.com review for this movie. It is spot-on. I highly recommend this movie for anyone of any age.
I haven't read any of the books, so I saw ‘Twilight’ without preconceptions. The movie was OK, but could have been much better. The whole movie looked amateurish. Most of the acting was sub par, and the special effects were very poor, almost cartoonish. Also, having the boyfriend's family in white make-up made their identity as vampires obvious, even though no one in the town could figure it out. The story gave me a sense of diversity run amok, as in 'You shouldn't treat people differently just because they don’t look like you' (even vampires). To make that premise more palatable, many of the traditional characteristics of vampires were changed. Beyond these flaws, if you’re looking for a true ‘love conquers all’ movie, this one is that.
'Battle in Seattle' is very interesting and thought provoking, while still being entertaining. The only criticism I have is that there are some scenes that can cause motion sickness if you are sensitive to shaking camera shots. This movie is worth seeing however, to find out information not reported in mainstream media.
As a movie, QoS is good, but as a 007 movie it is only fair. It would have been more appropriate under a new name. Although there wasn’t much of a plot, and very little intrigue, it did have colorful locations and sets, lots of action, and a lot of property destruction. Unfortunately, it had very little to make you think of the original franchise. While Daniel Craig was good for this movie, his character lacked the debonair character and coolness of past Bonds. Lastly, the editing made the chase and fight scenes appear too fast and choppy, making them hard to follow. It made the movie look like the editors were either told to arbitrarily shorten it, or that it was done on purpose for the short attention span generation. Still, worth seeing.
'Madagascar' is fine for light entertainment. I found some things objectionable, but cartoons have always taken discomforting situations such as physical violence and tried to make them funny. The animation was good, and the story cute, but take the PG rating seriously if you plan to take children.
