Plays well!

This is a very well cast and excellently acted movie with an intelligently intriguing story. The clues unfold in a straight time-line, so it is possible to figure out what happened, why it happened, and who caused it to happen at the same time the investigative reporters do, without being obvious. The plot twists and turns held my interest throughout the entire two-hour movie. My only complaint is that the trailer misleads (as most do nowadays) about what actually happens, but that doesn’t detract form the movie itself, just the trailer. I highly recommend seeing ‘State of Play’.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Not a comedy, Sunshine

‘Sunshine Cleaning’ is a few weeks in the life of a dysfunctional family and their acquaintances trying to survive in a world they don’t understand very well. While some of the predicaments they get into are funny, much of the story is sad, touching, or disturbing. If you are looking for a pretty good movie of this type, see it. If you’re looking for a light-hearted comedy, skip this one.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Great for kids

‘Hannah Montana: The Movie’ is corny and cheesy, and so is most of the acting. The exception is Miley Cyrus, who was surprisingly good for her age. Her songs were also quite enjoyable. It's definitely not a film for adults, but if you take your kids to see it, you won’t be bored to tears. It’s a fairly good, sweet family movie. All of the kids in the theater LOVED it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

“Mall Cop 2 – Crude Humor “

‘Observe and Report’ is ‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop’ with added violence and vulgarity. There are some very funny scenes, but only if you keep in mind that it’s only a movie, and people aren’t really being hurt. I think the violence was overly graphic for what is advertised as a comedy. Also be aware of lots of full frontal male nudity near the end, and it aint pretty.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Vintage Vin

The latest version of "Fast & Furious" goes back to its roots with fast cars, hot girls, lots of action, and Vin, bigger and badder than ever. If you liked the first one, you'll like this one. Just don't expect too much reality. It is fiction, after all.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Interesting, not very scary

‘The Haunting in Connecticut’ starts out as a typical slow, dreary horror movie, with average acting, sullen kids, an uncaring father, and a mom that says nothing but “are you okay” over and over, until you wonder if she can say anything else. I was ready to write this one off, but it did get much better. As more new characters, and historic-informational flashbacks were added, it actually became interesting. Everything seemed to come together for a good last quarter. If you go to see it, just hang in there kitten, it gets better.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

See it in a theater

This animated movie is very cute. The story is very simple, so it is easy for kids to follow. There is quite a bit of humor, but not alot of laugh-out-loud humor. What is outstanding in “Monsters vs. Aliens” is the creative computer-generated imagery. That makes this otherwise average movie worth seeing in the theater. I didn’t see it in 3-D, but it looks like that would add alot to the experience. I recommend seeing it in 3-D if possible.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Best Recent Comedy

‘I Love You Man’ will go down in history as one of the top classic male bonding comedies. It had a lot of new material, even for someone who has been watching movies for many years. Unlike many of the recent movies, all of the best laughs aren’t limited to the trailers. There are enough to keep you laughing through the entire movie. If you’re in the mood to laugh (or wish you were), definitely see it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Duplicity is another sting movie, but is too shallow to be good, and ends up going nowhere. It starts near the end of the story, then uses flashbacks to explain plot points that didn’t make sense when they happened. This makes the movie long and tedious to watch, therefore not as enjoyable. While Clive Owen and Julia Roberts are both great actors, their relationship in this case wasn’t believable, and couldn’t save the movie. Paul Giamatti wasn’t believable as the CEO of a major corporation either. Some of the other players were very good though. If you have time to kill, go ahead and see it. Just don’t expect too much.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Relationship case study

‘Two Lovers’ is a difficult movie to review. I think you will either love it for what it is, or you won’t like it. It’s an odd, but interesting, slightly twisted love story filled with real-life deceit and indecision. The thing that stands out in this movie is Joaquin Phoenix’ acting. It’s not outstanding, but consistent and convincing. I believe ‘Two Lovers’ is well worth seeing, but if gambling your money and time on a movie that’s not a sure bet bothers you, then maybe you should pass on this one. On a side note, the actress, Isabella Rossellini, that plays the mother in the movie, reminded me so much of her mother (Ingrid Bergman) a couple of times that it was absolutely eerie. It felt like being transported 40 years back in time.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
