Too much Ugly

'The Ugly Truth' could have been a very cute romantic comedy, but there was much more vulgarity used than necessary to give credibility to the premise that the truth can be ugly. There were gems of truth about relationships between men and women, and some very funny moments. They just didn't need to pound the coarseness drum as often as they did to get the message across. If the over use of words that were formerly used for their shock value doesn't bother you, by all means see it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Can't give fair review

I think 'The Hurt Locker' was a pretty good movie. I would call it more of a character study of the way different people react to modern war situations, rather than a 'war movie'. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to enjoy it as much as I would have liked, because it is one of those movies that overuses the quick-zoom and shaky camera effects, which made me nauseous.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Bad (Hearsay)

Thanks to my fellow top reviewers, I chose not see 'bruno'. My wife however, heard from an acquaintance that it was funny, so she went to see it. She walked out after thirty minutes and said that it was a same-gender male smut movie and wasn't funny. Her words, not mine. I did have to change a couple words to pass the censoring program on this site.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Nothing wrong with 'Orphan"

Although ‘Orphan’ appears from the trailers to be a horror movie, it’s really more suspense/drama oriented. The story was a bit different than most of the usual ‘evil child’ movies, and the acting was good. I’m glad I didn’t read other user reviews before I saw the movie, because several of them give away the surprise twist near the end, which is one of the things that make the movie good. If you haven’t read one of the spoiler reviews yet, I recommend that you stop reading now, and go see it!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

You'll Go Away Amused

‘Away We Go’ is a good movie to see if you enjoy watching odd people with odd friends doing odd things in odd situations. The writing is the star of this movie. Almost anyone could have deadpanned their way through the lines as John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph did and still been as funny. Their looks fit their characters though, so that was another plus. The best thing about the movie for me was what seemed to be a sub-plot about Maya’s character Verona in the middle of the movie, but turned out to be a main point at the end. A delightful movie to see, as long as you are not looking for total normalcy or reality.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Half-Baked Pottery

This movie gets five stars for special effects and richness of ambiance and characters. Unfortunately, it only earns two stars for story. Although there were a few plot points, they were only there as a set-up for the next installment. At the end it seemed like I'd watched the first half of a two-part show. Oh yeah, there may have been some funny lines, because a couple of people out of the hundred or so in the theater chuckled a few times. The reason the rest of us didn’t laugh is that the young actors mumbled their lines so badly that we couldn’t understand what they were saying. Even so, ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ is worth a look for the interesting visuals. Three-and-a-half stars overall.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Johnny’s Depth Scores Again!

This Mann (Michael) knows how to make a movie! ‘Public Enemies’ is based on actual events, so the plot is as interesting as a 1930’s real life crime story can be, and is very well told. The acting and directing were outstanding, and while the depiction of the time period wasn’t one hundred percent correct (nearly technically impossible), it was amazingly well done. Visually, it could not have been much better. This movie was thoroughly enjoyable. I don’t usually care to see a movie more than once, but I really hope to see this one again.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

My review of 'Ice Age: Dawn of the dinosaurs 3D' might be a little skewed because I was hoping to see it in 3D, but didn't. I give the movie five stars for artwork and creativity, but only three stars for story and dialog. If I closed my eyes, I could imagine that I was listening to 'Everybody Loves Ray'. Same jokes (bumbling father), same delivery. Still it was fun to watch and would be OK for kids.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' is non-stop action from beginning to end. The amount of amazing CGI is overwhelming. The plot is standard. The added crudeness was unnecessary, and detracted from what could have been a good movie for kids.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

It’s a Keeper

‘My Sister’s Keeper’ is a very good movie. The story has depth and is well told, and the acting by the young people in the movie is outstanding. Cameron Diaz’ performance is less enjoyable, but adequate. I had expected a typical tear jerker, but found this one to be refreshingly different. There are some problems with continuity because so many flashbacks are used, but they don’t detract too much from the overall entertainment value.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
