A Fine Modern-Day Fairy Tale Love Story

True love conquers all. This sweeping well-crafted fairy tale of modern-day India has lots to offer. Fine acting, a fast moving story line, fine cinematography and music.
I'm not sure it's truly Oscar-caliber, but certainly worth seeing, and better than most of the output we get from Hollywood. If I could have, I would have chosen 4-1/2 stars, but 5 would be a stretch.
Shot on location in India, the scenes depicting the rough life, poverty and squalor of Mumbai are not for the sqeamish, but I suspect are fairly realistic.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Lightweight but Entertaining

Two fine acting performances by Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson save what is otherwise a fairly weak story line and make this a worthwhile film for a bleak winter afternoon or evening at the movies.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Should Have Been a 1 hour TV Show

Sorry, just 'cause you adapt a book with a dog and cute family, you don't get a good movie. This was simply trite, predictable and boring. My wife and I both love dogs, and we both agreed it was a waste of time.
Only recommended if you are taking kids younger than 10, and then only if you don't mind some scenes where Mom and Dad are getting into bed with the clothes still on.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
