With so many movies in 3D these days this is one that should have been! It's in your face with special effects and visuals!
The writers do a great job taking a very complex plot line and turning it into a story that can be followed. At first it seems like its going to be one of those movies that jumps all over the place and you don't know if you're coming or going. But for a story that is a dream inside of a dream inside of a dream - it's not as complex as it could have been. Superb acting, typical DiCaprio (great) and some great performances by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Ellen Page. My only 'tiny' complaint would be some of the symbols and scenes in the movie that seemed like they might play a role but then didn't - I feel as though a prequel might be an interesting idea to explain a few things that possibly landed on the editing room floor. With theaters full of cartoons, sequels, and TV remakes - this is easily one of the best movies of the year. Inception will leave you wondering what just happened and you'll be talking about this movie all the way home. A good sign of a great movie.
I found that the movie tried to introduce too many new charcters and didn't give us enough of the ones from the first movie. New characters need development and there were just too many to know who was who and whehter we should like them or not. The bad guy (Roarke) was a pretty bad ass bad guy. But he wasn't made into someone we wanted to hate. We had no reason to want him to fail. The climatic fight scene with him was hardly climatic either. It seemed the movie was more concerned with setting up the S.H.I.E.L.D. tie-ins and possible spin-offs. However, that said it was still a decent movie that didn't drag or have too many lulls. Downey and Paltrow have great chemistry and the Iron Man hero is a good one. I recommend it - but as the franchise continues I don't think this will be the most memorable installment.
Overall I liked the movie but I guess hearing that it was a George Romero remake made me think it was going to be filled with brain eating zombies. This is more of a virus outbreak survival film. It works. And the infected are zombie like. But they're more like crazy murderers. Which makes the name of the movie quite appropriate. Go see it. It's a good creepy movie with a few 'make you jump' scenes in it.
The movie is reminiscent of the great cop movies of the 80's and 90's like Beverly Hills Cop, Lethal Weapon, and Fletch. Even has Harold Faltermeyer doing the music! The story was so-so but the jokes were laugh out loud funny. Bruce and Tracy had great chemistry and could make a good team to create a sequel around. Only critique is some of the lulls with no laughs and the ending could have been more creative.
A lot of action in this movie - it flows nicely. The story line was good. Christian Bale was 'ok' - typical acting style for him. At times I felt it was a little too easy for a person to beat a 'machine' but overall the movie was good. No surprises though. It should be a good start to a rebirth of the franchise.
