Colin Firth gives a commanding portrayal of a reluctant king. This movie is brillantly acted and very witty, without being corny. I hope it will win many awards. One of the best I have seen in quite some time. Go England!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Viewers seeing this movie should be prepared for a moving account of a village struggling with many issues. Class conflict, gender conflict and well as intergenerational relationships are tackled without obvious resolution. The action takes place in 1914, and I found all the actors convincing for this time period. The brutal burden of village expectations have lessons for today. The subtitles are easy to follow and capture the essence of the dialog, although some of the text is simplified. For people who know a little German (like me) the speakers are clear and easy to follow. This movie will engage anyone eager for more than simple entertainment.
