Extremely intense. This has to be about as realistic of a war movie as has ever been made. It hits on the emotional toil, tragedy, and senselessness of the most serious and difficult situations any human can be put through.
If you have a relative in the service right now, be sure you are ready to see this before you go. I agree that it is near-perfect. It will change your view of what is going on over there.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
