Who or what is The Dark Knight?

The Dark Knight is a clever twenty-first century rendering of the Batman we have known. In the movie, cell phones turn into spy ware, Batman gets a new lair, and highly organized mobs pose a new threat to Gotham, led by a psycho sociopath with a devilish smile. Most profound about this movie was that it met the high demands of today's movie-goers by giving the audience a blend of action, romance, tragedy, and twist that makes the cunning observer ask, "Who or what is the Dark Knight?"
Yes, I recommend this movie.
