I'm a little biased, I'm a huge Adam Sandler fan, and with this cast, my expectations were very high.
They didn't disappoint. Although there were some crude sexual humor exploitations throughout the movie, this movie was quite funny and hilariously so.
Almost every scene was filled with great punchlines, and more importantly, the movie scored big points in weaving in a great heartwarming story for kids of all ages (including "Grown Ups.")
For the record, I can't stand Channing Tatum. He just doesn't seem "real." His acting is just not very convincing. Wayans was hilarious -- but the black stereotype character is just getting tired and old. Dennis Quaid -- well, he's Dennis Quaid, not bad, but not great either. The girls were pretty good too. This movie suffers from a lack of identify. GI Joe was an "AMERICAN HERO" and instead in this movie was a "NATO" hero. Um, hello Hollywood -- don't rewrite the major element of a character-based series!!! Kudos for special effects and action, but the script was fairly week. Good story line, just mediocre development. I really hope they develop this series into a good franchise. But bring back the theme song!
I really like a lot of Adam Sandler's Stuff -- usually. Let me start by saying this was a great idea for a movie - but Judd Apatow just threw it out the window. The character development was really well done (except in the case of Bana) and you could really connect with the characters. By the end of the movie, it was too drawn out to care about Sandler's character, I found myself wishing his medical condition had returned to bring the movie back down a bit. What ruined this movie COMPLETELY for me was the vulgar language. It is just not enjoyable to squirm in your seat through the whole movie as they constantly used lurid se_x_ual humor to bring on cheap laughs. Hollywood, you can be better than this. Be more creative.
Two things gave this movie two stars, and not one. There was a very funny line about a soft drink that kept me laughing, and the final fighting scene.
Tatum just couldn't act if you paid him ten-times more -- and Howard could barely hold a line himself.
The movie was choppy at best with major gaffes such as the box going from being soaking wet to being almost dry and Tatum's shirt going from ripped to sewn perfectly in the next shot.
Annoying. Only reason to watch is to see Zulay as she is quite the bomb (attractive).
This is a pretty good movie. A decent story line, really good action sequences, and some really good psychological switches.
Some of the movie was predictable (it's a WWE sponsored movie after all), but I was pleasantly surprised when the movie didn't go down that predictable road.
One of the most annoying, albeit necessary things was how they introduced the nemesis to the movie. It seemed out of place - but as I said, was necessary to understand what you want to hate this guy. Ashley Scott isn't as hot as she is in other movies -- and while she was a focal point of the movie, didn't have a chance to even be a supporting actress. All in all, well done and worth watching during the cheap hours.
I didn't know quite what to expect from this movie. I must admit, I was surprised. This movie, while stupid (to be expected) at times, had a sweet sub-plot of love between the cop and his daughter -- where a daughter already knows how much of a hero her father is to her -- without him having to prove it.
Kevin James is spectacular in his physical comedy and he really knows how to take a character, including all facets of how the script was written, to the next level.
Although I wasn't a huge fan of Fanning's performance and some of the cliche-like acting, I really liked the movie.
This is a great action flick from beginning to end where they really used every trick in the book to make you think you knew how it was going to end. Not-so-much -- just when you think you know, think again.
I really love the special effects and fighting sequences, outstanding and original screenplay.
First, let me say, ahhhh, Kristen Kreuk is easy on the eyes. Very easy. Ok, ok, down to business. This movie falls flat on its face. While I like the movie, I really hoped for more action. I will commend the film on one very important quality that is missing from a lot of films in the same genre -- building a back-story and plot line. This movie excelled at building a plot line at the expense of keeping the people who went there to see an action-flick laid back in their seat eating popcorn. Anyway - a good movie to watch if you are a fan of the game - and want to know the backstory of the characters in the game. If you want a complete action flick - stick with Jason Statham -- as this isn't for you.
Back in July I saw Glenn Beck live via the big-screen and he was phenomenal. This particular production was not what I expected in terms of "show" but was worth ever penny of the 20 dollars I paid.
Glenn Beck has a knack not only for comedy but for stage shows. I almost think he could be a broadway performer -- but it would be a waste of his influence. I doubt this will be at a theatre anytime soon -- but I'm sure it will be released on DVD. Spend the money -- the message AND the delivery is worth every penny.
