Delivers a tasty blend of the predictable and unexpected. I would say anyone who buys a ticket for a film called 'Shark Night ' will get exactly what they pay for, and these days, that can feel like a bit of a miracle. The acting? Eh. The plot? Eh. The sharks eating people? Oh, yeah! A must see!
Magnificent. The 21st century version of "Rocky" and "Raging Bull" rolled into one, "Warrior" is as solid as Tom Hardy's steely ab muscles. It hardly rewrites the rulebook, but Warrior is a powerful, moving and brilliant sports-pic-com-family drama. Like The Fighter, but with kicking. As so many films get lost in the Friday shuffle of new releases, it seems easier for a quality, smaller film to miss its audience. Don't lose Warrior. It's one of the best films of 2011. A must see.
It's a warm, intelligent and highly contemporary comedy with just the right amount of edge. Ned turns out to be a strangely moving figure, a comic foil worthy of affection, perhaps even respect ...a feel-good film that's engaging, smartly paced, and entirely likable. A must see.
This movie fulfilled all my expectations for a Conan movie and more. You can't underestimate the vitality of a movie where manly men give orders such as, "We will cast our rivals into oceans of blood." Moves like a shot, tosses a lot of hardcore lunacy at the screen, and shows a decent amount of respect for basic matinee action-feats. A must see.
Fright has matured nicely over the quarter-century. While remaining sharp-tongued, the film knows its place on the teen landscape. It isn't quite a classic vampire movie, but it's refreshingly straightforward and self-deprecating. Fright Night" joins "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" as proof that you actually can do this sort of thing correctly. Ultimately, it's a solid update of a fondly remembered minor hit. A must see.
First-time feature director Steven Quale has brought this anemic franchise back to life, with an unexpected infusion of humor and energy. Do the kills measure up? They do, in a fashion as laughably over-the-top as you'd expect. The movie is as thrilling as a roller-coaster ride (another instrument of death, put to sinister use in Final Destination 3) Some actual, honest-to-goodness thought and care went into "Final Destination 5," decidedly the best sequel in the bunch. A must see before you reach your final destination.
30 Minutes or Less is sporadically funny and it benefits from a talented cast. Its everything you want from a comedy. Jesse Eisenberg's great acting as well as Aziz Ansari's incredible comedic timing make this movie a riot. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Perfect summer comedy, and currently the funniest movie of the year. Take your balls back from your woman and go see this movie and not "The Help"
The first film in the franchise to even pretend to match the brilliance of the 1968 original. Rise is a terrifyingly shocking ground-breaking piece of cinema with great heart and action. The real stars of the movie are the CGI artists who have brought Caesar and the other primates to life. A rich, emotionally engaging sci-fi blockbuster that is also a visual effects tour-de-force and a must see this summer before the apes takes over.
Got to see an advanced screening of this on Monday and was totally blown away by how much I liked it. Guts, cute, raunchy and totally entertaining in the way Wedding Crashers and The Hangover both were. Reynolds and Bateman have incredible chemistry together, which makes one of the funniest movies of the summer. A must see.
I'll admit that Cowboys and Aliens might have some issues here and there, but I thought it was a lot of fun. The action is involving and the strong performances by the actors helped me buy into this idea hook, line and sinker - it's crazy fun, the kind you're supposed to have at a summer movie with a ridiculous title. Might not be the rousing sci-fi action movie some might expect, but there's more than enough fun summer entertainment to make it worthwhile, especially if you're a fan of Westerns. All in all, a must see.
