It all depends

I read all the reviews on this movie, and have to say, all are accurate. How could that be with the various ratings? Well, people are expecting different things when they go to movies, and I understand where the criticisms are coming from.
The subtitles are a bit hard to read at times. The print was certainly not up to A standard, and yes, there was not enough of the interplay of Salander and Blomquist.
I read the first novel then saw the movie, and thought they did a good job. I have not read the second, so I can't comment on the fidelity to the novel. I feel the first had more mystery to it, and was more cerebral. "The Girl Who Played With Fire" was a bit more pedestrian, not as unique a story. We do learn a bit more about Salander, a lot from my take, and that is satisfying, but leads you want more.
The ending was a little bit of a let down, but again - it is setting up the third book/film. "Dragon" ended with a good wrap up, this a little too much unresolved.
Five stars because it it still refreshing, and I have an interest developed from the first book that pulls me into the film. Many will find it "eh", and I can see that.
Five stars for fans of the series, probably 3 to 4 for casual viewers.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

...and you won't be disappointed.
I entered 2012 expecting SFX and got them. A LOT. Now a movie of such apocalyptic vision can be expected to be a little over the top, but this went a little too far.
This movie just made a mockery of the possible. The car escape, the small plane, etc. - just WAY too unbelievable. In the midst of all this destruction, I was almost laughing at how ridiculous the scenarios were... Apart from the obvious plot holes that can be expected in any sci-fi film.
I would still recommend it. But with the caveat that you go in expecting nothing more than the elaborate roller coaster thrill ride that it is. With a little restraint, this could have been a MUCH better film. YMMV
Yes, I recommend this movie.
