Powerful Performances

I cannot say enough about the superb acting Streep delivers in this performance. This is not a "did he do it" movie when you strip away the history and stereotypes of the priesthood. Rather it is how one person's perceptions and inability to consider other possibilities consume her. Hoffman delivers as well, exceptional in his role without giving many hints to his innocence or guilt. The tension between both characters is believable and powerful. Oscar is going to love this movie and so should movie goers.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Solid Performances

Although somewhat slow moving at times, the strong performances by the actors kept me engrossed in the movie. It was interesting to see how the recording studio evolved and launched the careers of this music icons. Adrien Brody gave a strong performance, and Beyoncé's powerful singing were highlights for me. The story seemed to lag a little, but all in all, it was a good film with solid performances by all.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Go With The Flow or Stay Home

Personally, I enjoyed the movie. It is definitely one in which you must trust the writers and patiently wait until the story unfolds. It seems confusing at first, with snippets of material that finally make sense as the story reaches its climax. The writers do tie up the loose ends, and Smith's motivation becomes clear. I think part of the reason some might be turned off is that lack of motivation coming through earlier. However, if one is really paying attention to the foreshadowing, the ending is somewhat predictable. If you are looking for a plot that is laid out step by step, avoid this. It will leave you frustrated unless you are very patient.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Weak Film, Cast

I'll say up front that I am not a Jim Carrey fan, but I thought I'd give this movie a chance. Unfortunately, the film fell flat. It was not really that funny, and at times, I felt bored. Carrey was ... well ... Carrey, but seemingly forced. His physical comedy was predictably overdone. The supporting cast was weak, a bit quirky, and horribly overshadowed except for Deschanel who gave a relatively strong performance as Carrey's romantic interest. Carrey fans may totally disagree with me on this review, but if you are not one of them, find another movie this weekend.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

About What I Expected

My low expectations were met in "Four Christmases." It was predictable, offered a few weak laughs, and thankfully ran less than 90 minutes. Still, I was entertained to some degree. If you have NOTHING else to do, catch a matinee or rent it on DVD.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Tragic Loss of Innocence

By telling this story through a child's point-of-view, the writers deliver a gut-wrenching story to viewers as we watch the impact of the Holocaust on its most innocent victims. Heart-wrenching and powerful, this film goes beyond the atrocities and focuses on the tragic loss of innocence of two boys from entirely different worlds. References to the concentration camp were necessarily sanitized in order to protect young Bruno from the horrible truth, which made the movie even more tragic. This is a film that will stay with movie-goers for a long time as we each try to wrap our minds around a horrific time at the hands of a murderous tyrant. This is a must see!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This Movie Has It All

For me, this was a thoroughly enjoyable film from start to finish despite the long run time. If you're looking for sexual tension, it's there. Good guys, bad guys? Yep. Action? You bet! Although Kidman and Jackman's characters are a bit stereotypical, the setting and story line set this movie apart from most. The main characters' motivations are well conceived and compelling. The emotion is there - not contrived, but seemingly sincere. Every action and reaction is believable. Cast as the mixed-race boy, Nullah, Brandon Walters breaks out with a superb performance. Australia definitely lives up to its hype, and I wouldn't hesitate to see this movie again. It was a feast for the eyes - in more ways than one!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

A Very Pleasant Surprise

This was almost the little sleeper movie that got away from me. After being bombarded by action-packed movies for the last several weeks, "Bees" was a welcome change. Although the movie is categorized as "Action/Adventure," that is NOT the case. This was a drama - a powerful one at that. Dakota Fanning was terrific in the lead role with a strong performance by Queen Latifah. I was deeply touched by this film and would recommend it to those who are looking for something with more substance that much of what is being released this fall. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised - and bring the Kleenex!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

A Wake Up Call

Time for Americans to pull their heads out of the sand and understand why excessive government spending must be cut. This movie delivers some very disturbing economic news in a way that can be understood by most. I did feel that the movie was thrown together, however. Also, viewers must realize this picture was produced before the current meltdown. It failed to address this issue on a global scale other to say what countries held US notes. All in all it was a real education for those who are in the dark about how serious this problem is and how important it is for our leaders to stop doing what's popular and start doing what's right.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Delivers a Message

I went to this film expecting it to be a bit preachy and it was, but all in all I found the movie delivered an important message. Kirk Cameron did a nice job in his role, but the rest of the cast was shaky. The marital difficulties the couple faced were realistic and provided the type of conflict that would severely damage a relationship. I was struck by the way Cameron's character grew as the story built to its conclusion. This is not a slick production, but if you focus on the message, it is a movie a couple in a committed relationship would certainly benefit from.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
