Fast Paced Action

This is not a work of art, but if you just want to be entertained with endless action and a bit of intrigue, then "12 Rounds" should work for you. The pacing is extremely quick to bring home a sense of urgency and keep with the time limits Cena's character has to complete each task. At time the camera work can be dizzying, but it adds to the intensity of the action. I didn't have very high expectations for this movie, but despite the predictable outcome, I felt satisfied when I left the theater.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Mildly Disappointing

This movie had not been on my "must see" list, but because of Mickey Rourke's performance, I thought I'd finally make time to see it. Although it is a character study, which I normally really like, I just couldn't get into it. Rourke's performance is compelling, but most of the story just drug on and on for me, perhaps because I'm not a wrestling fan. The movie contains graphic violence that is intense enough to warrant the R rating. The story is gritty and believable, but that in itself might turn some movie goers off. I guess I was just looking for more substance, and "The Wrestler" just didn't deliver. It's a decent movie, but not one that stands out.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

A Letdown

I was looking forward to seeing this movie after I saw the trailer. It looked to be entertaining, intriguing, and filled with a bit of sexual tension. Unfortunately, the trailer contained the best parts of the film. The story is told in a series of flashbacks that set up the present, and the constant switching back to the past destroyed the pacing and momentum of this movie. If you are one who likes a picture that moves chronologically, avoid this. Roberts and Owen are good together, but other than that chemistry, I found the movie to be otherwise dull and drawn out. "Duplicity" was a real letdown.

Worst Movie I've EVER Seen

This was a horrid movie in every sense of the word - the worst movie I have EVER seen. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I saw this train wreck, but if my review can save only one person from having to endure this trash, I'm happy to send out a warning. One star is being generous. Run the other way and don't look back!

A Little Lame, But Enjoyable

I kept my expectations low for this predictable comedy, but with little to choose from, I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised. It's lame and cheesy, but there's something endearing about James' character. I think there's probably a bit of "Blart" in all of us - a certain inadequacy that we try to hide from the rest of the world - so seeing him successfully step out of his comfort zone and eventually come out the hero was uplifting. Pre-teen kids will definitely enjoy it, and adults should just relax and go with the flow. Heck, it's only 90 minutes of your life, and it sure beats watching financial experts discuss the unemployment rate. Why not getting a few laughs at Blart's expense? Enjoy!

Definitely Not Mainstream

Most importantly, this is NOT a comedy by any stretch of the imagination. It's more of a docu-drama in an odd sense of the word. Hathaway provides an excellent portrayal of a recovering addict who is struggling through the fallout of her addiction and a past tragedy. The tension between family members is also well done. The premise of the story had potential, but it was lost in a sea of bizarre episodes, including an overly drawn out rehearsal dinner complete with equally bizarre minor characters. Had the story focused more on the relationships and less on extraneous and drawn-out minor scenes, the film would have been more effective for me.

Superb Acting

It was hard to give this movie four stars because the story is such a downer, but Winslet, and especially DiCaprio are on top of their game here. This is a rather slow-moving film that picks up steam as the story line reaches that pivotal moment. It is a complex character study into two characters with conflicting life goals. This is not a love story, so don't expect it. Instead, prepare for tension, then anger, and finally tragedy that will eventually destroy the couple's hopes and dreams with one disturbed character motivated by a irrational selfishness and another looking to find some sense of self-importance. Without the performances and the chemistry between these two actors, this movie would be a definite pass for me.

Good Movie, But Pay Attention

I was surprised with the number of people who couldn't follow the plot. You don't need to focus on every detail to enjoy this movie, but you do need to remain alert. Lots of good action, intrigue, and a believable storyline worked for me. If you are looking for a movie that doesn't demand your attention, pass on this. But if you like the action, interesting locales, and good acting, especially from Owen, go for it. We saw "The International" the night after seeing "Taken," and this was by far the better movie for me.

The pretense of the film was good, and I could believe that Neeson's character would follow through like this. But for me, the execution didn't live up to the plot. Because the movie is rated PG-13, there was no sense of reality for me. While I appreciate the lack of gruesome scenes, Neeson's elimination of every bad guy in his path with such ease was almost laughable. I will say that I could feel for him as the noncustodial parent being under-minded by his ex-wife. All in all, it's not a bad film, but there just wasn't quite enough substance for me to rank it higher. Thankfully it didn't run another 30 minutes.

I Just Wasn't That Into It

The target audience for this film would be 20 or 30ish single women. While it was mildly entertaining, I just couldn't get into it. For those that remember the TV series "thirtysomething," you'll likely see some familiar themes, mainly overdramatizing the events in one's life. One of the main characters, "Gigi," was portrayed as a woman who couldn't be complete without having a main in her life. It was pathetic. I would hope she is the exception and not the rule. This is not a date movie, but rather a girls-night-out flick. Don't bother if you're over 40 and happily married.
