Having just returned from Rome where this movie was heavily promoted, I was anxious to see A&D, if only for the location. Although this isn't Hanks' or Howard's best work, the movie is still a good suspense film with good pacing. There are some graphic images that might be disturbing for some, but over all, A&D is entertaining and does not seem as long as the 2 1/2 hours running time. Keep your expectations in check. This is in no way a blockbuster but rather a decent Friday night flick.
I had not seen any of the other Wolverine movies and didn't really expect this to be a pic I would enjoy, but I did. Great action scenes and strong motivation of Jackman's character made this movie work. Oh, and Hugh wasn't hard on the eyes either!
I can't say enough about Downey and Foxx's performances in this movie. Simply outstanding. The story, although compelling, did not draw me in the way I expected it would. I found the flashbacks a bit distracting, and for me, it was not necessary to hear the voices inside the head of a schizophrenic. It was obvious he was mentally ill. Like some others, I felt like this would have made a nice 60-minute story, but did not warrant a full-length film. Only the acting of Foxx and Downey kept me engaged in the movie, and they alone make this a 4-Star film.
The video in this documentary is outstanding! I was amazed at how the videotographers were able to capture the beauty of a simple bud opening in time lapse to a predator overtaking its prey in slow motion with such expertise. Watching "Earth" gave me a better understanding of how fragile life is through the obstacles each species must face as they face the perils of nature. This is a good movie, but I can't say it was much better than something on Discovery or National Geographic except that we were able to see it the way it was meant to be seen on the big screen. Caution to parents: Although not graphic, some smaller children might be disturbed by knowing an animal will die as is the case in this fragile world of survival of the fittest.
I expected this to be good, and it exceeded my expectations. Excellent acting by Crowe and Affleck, both totally believable in their roles. Quick pacing, twists and turns, and red herrings kept me totally engaged in the film. Although I had an idea of how it might end, I wasn't disappointed and felt totally satisfied when I left the theater. Probably one of the best movies out there as of April 18.
I'm not sure why people are complaining about the language in this movie. It's rated R and is about male bonding. Of course the language is going to be offensive to some. If you are sensitive to that, skip this. Otherwise, go and enjoy it. It wasn't a "laugh til you cry" movie for me, but there were moments that were funny - enough to keep me entertained. Not sure I see this as a drama; I saw it more as a weak comedy. I'd recommend it to some of my friends, but not to others.
Marginal acting, weak dialogue, and little depth. That pretty much sums up this movie. Probably more appealing to those under 30. Definitely not much of a comedy.
This isn't the type of movie I'd normally see, but I was pleasantly surprised. Lots of action and clear motivation for the characters. Just a fun flick for a otherwise dull Sunday night.
Adams' strong performance is the driving force behind this film. I wasn't impressed with her in "Doubt," but casting her in the lead for this movie was a stroke of genius. Blunt and Arkin add just the right touch in their supporting roles. The subject matter may turn off some movie goers, but the inner struggles of the characters and how their lives are intertwined are compelling. There are some loose ends that are not addressed, but overall, this movie sparkles. This film stands on its own and should not be confused with "Little Miss Sunshine." Don't go expecting a comedy or comparing it with the other "Sunshine." They are two totally different movies.
"Knowing" mixes elements of the paranormal, sci-fi, and religious overtones to drive a somewhat disturbing story of one man's knowledge of global disasters and the end of the world. This film is NOT for young children or those who might not be able to handle intense disaster scenes or the thought of the end of time. I hesitated in seeing this with my husband since he "hates" sci-fi and paranormal movies, but he did enjoy this. I, too, was engaged in the movie throughout, and we left us discussing the story. To enjoy the film, the viewer should open the mind and allow for numerous interpretations of the events. Yes, the ending was cheesy, but necessary to complete the plot. Educate yourself before you go.
