I have never been an Adam Sandler fan, having even walked out of "Punch Drunk Love," but I have to admit this was a decent comedy that entertained me throughout. The premise is simple, but the message is important. Sometimes families need to slow down and stop to realize what's important in life. Just a nice little flick that thankfully lacked typical Sandler crude material that is found in his R-rated movies.
I've never read the books and never saw the two prequels, so I went to this movie wondering if the hype was worth it. For me, no. "Eclipse" was nothing more than a mildly entertaining romp into the paranormal. Perhaps it's because I don't know (or care) about the back story, but I found Bella to be a confused adolescent torn between two bad choices. Some parts of the film dragged; others were simply laughable. If you are not familiar with the trilogy, read the books then decide for yourself if the screenplay can even compare. This movie is definitely directed to its target audience.
No frills here except perhaps the footage of Italy. Still, "Juliet" entertained me from beginning to end. I especially enjoyed the parallels between the two romance running side-by-side - and old love and a new one. Just a sweet, simple and refreshing romance that makes for a good date flick.
I would not classify this as a romance by any stretch of the imagination. Although the move showed signs of potential at the beginning, it descended into pure absurdity once the couple was married and a bounty went out on Kutcher's character. There were some laughs, but this was not the movie I expected. Heigl's talents were wasted here, and Kutcher was only fair eye candy and totally unbelievable as an operative. Rent it if you must.
I guess I was expecting a more traditional film about the legend of Robin Hood, but I was pleasantly surprised with this film. This is a prequel to the legend ripe with battles between the French and the British. Strong cast and used well throughout. There were parts of the film when the dialect interfered a bit, and parts of the dialogue were hard to understand. Maybe not for children under 12 because of the slinging arrows and some intense violence, but an interesting romp back in history, although I imagine the writers infused a great deal of creative writing to bring this one to the screen.
Knock off about 30 minutes and SATC2 would have been far less tiring. Could have done without the wedding at the beginning, which did very little to advance the story. Characters just didn't have the zest that they have had in the past. Lacked some substance and pushed the envelope of believability. Still with all its weakness, I was entertained for most of the movie - if only for location shooting.
Rogue cops are usually fairly stereotypical, but Gibson breathes life into his character in this pulse-pounding, but very graphic film. Throughout the movie, I could feel the rage within this man and his determination to uncover the truth and avenge his daughter's murder. Good to see Gibson back on screen in this compelling performance. Avoid if you are sensitive to strong bloody violence. There's plenty.
Although this was not a total bomb, it was tiring to watch. Laced with one bad zinger after another, "Cop Out" becomes way too predictable and tiring about 30 minutes into the movie. I never saw this as much of a drama, but rather sophomoric comedy interwoven with faux dramatic moments. Skip it unless you are willing to check your brain at the door.
The line between fact and fiction becomes blurred in this engaging film that is chock full of dramatic punch and not-so-thinly-veiled politics. If you take the movie for what it is, FICTION, go with the flow and enjoy the action. Since many of the extras in this film are actual soldiers who saw combat action, each scene is intense and believable. Somewhat unbelievable is Damon's character, a maverick who is out to prove that WMD's never existed. Still, the movie is worth a look and the acting is quite good. I found myself totally engaged for two hours, even though my political beliefs are somewhat different that those advanced in the film.
If not for the controversial ending, this film would would be just another mediocre drama with stereotypical characters and an angst-ridden storyline. I found the pacing to be extremely slow and tiring and nearly gave up on the film midway through. Although I had guessed Tyler's back story rather early in the film, it took an eternity to unfold on screen. The ending will polarize the audience: either you will hate it or love it. Regardless, it overshadows the rest of the film, and for me, felt contrived and an unnecessary way to deliver the message. The only reason I recommend this movie is to allow viewers to experience the last 10 minutes and sort out their feelings for themselves.
