"Tron: Legacy" was a good follow-up to the original. The story of Kevin Flynn's (Jeff Bridges) disappearance and then his son Sam (Garrett Hedlund) following him into the game about 10 years later, connect the two movies. That being said, the plot is not that complicated and probably will be savaged by many critics. Let's face it, we are watching for the cool special effects, the light cycle races and the disc games!!! The campiest performance has to be Michael Sheen's Castor, but he seems as delighted to be in the film as we are to watch. Some may criticize the extra expense of 3D, but this film does use it unlike other films (i.e. "My Soul To Take").
I just finished watching this movie at a preview screening and have to say "Excellent, excellent, excellent!!!" This film is powerful and emotional. I cannot point to just one actress' performance as being better than another. This ensemble cast which includes Janet Jackson, Loretta Devine,Phylicia Rashad, Kerry Washington, Thandie Newton and Anika Noni Rose is outstanding. I think that Tyler Perry has a good chance of an Oscar nod. For those wondering, Madea does NOT make a cameo.
I saw this movie the other night and it was quite hilarious! Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifianakis do an awesome job in the twist on the buddy film. I think of it as a bit demented version of "Planes, Trains and Automobiles". Downey Jr is the Steve Martin's character while Galifianakis is John Candy's character. Definitely go see it, but don't bring any kids under the age of 15. There's a lot of drug references and quite uncomfortable sexual situations.
Martin Scorcese does a good job of taking what could have been a ho hum movie plot and wringing out the suspense.I will admit that I was expecting more of a horror style plotline, but that was not the case for this film. I was surprised at Leonardo DiCaprio's performance which does draw you in. Ben Kingsley is, as always, a remarkable presence as the sympathetic psychiatrist on Shutter Island. Some may think that perhaps Scorcese did drag things out a bit by making this film 2 hours long, but I did not feel that it was that long.
What a wonderful movie! The characters, the story and music were great! Of course some may be really picky and say that this movie is predictable, but it has a nice theme of believing in yourself and your dreams is important. Also that hard work is an ingredient to being successful. My 17 year old daughter liked it just like I did. This new Disney film shows that hand drawn animation is not a dead art form!
There certainly was a lot of action in this version of the "GI Joe" story from the back story about the McCullen family to how Duke and Ripcord become part of the GI Joe squad. Weaknesses are the predictability of the plot, as well as the best friend/sidekick pairing of Channing Tatum and Damon Wayans. I will also go so far as to say that there really did not seem to be "sparks" between Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller. You're supposed to feel vested in their relationship, but I didn't feel it. Another downside was how obvious the CGI work was. I believe that the special effects should enhance a film but not distract. On the plus side were some surprise cameos in this flick.
My sister and I took our teen daughters to this movie and thorough enjoyed it! While Ben Stiller was funny as Larry, Hank Azaria just about stole the movie as Egyptian pharoah Kahmunrah, poised to take over the world, while he does a lisping Boris Karloff imitation. Amy Adams was quite feisty as Amelia Earhart, while Bill Hader played a clueless yet egotistical Gen. Custer. Owen Wilson reprised his cowboy Jedediah and Ed Googan as Roman centurion, Octavius. This film is fun for the whole family...Oh yeah! The Jonas brothers make a cameo is this film too!
I had been looking forward to this movie since I saw the first trailers last year. Hugh Jackman does a great job reprising his role as Logan/ Wolverine and Liev Schreiber is cool as Victor/Sabertooth. While there are lots of action sequences, I still think that some fans may be disappointed by the underuse of some characters. I will be honest and say that I think there are some plot holes in the film that keep it from being absolutely perfect. The CGI is not as seamless looking as some might think, but "X-Men Origins:Wolverine" still stands up to most viewers who view it as fantasy. Hint: Stay through the credits.
My teen daughter and I were really disappointed. We thought that with Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig, SNL castmembers, that the film would be really hilarious. Unfortunately, we were let down by the overall depressing tone of the plot. This is another example where folks who smoke pot go nowhere, such as "Pineapple Express". Despite pro critics giving Kristen Stewart kudos for "stretching" herself, we did not feel that she really did that. Jesse Eisenberg was successful in conveying how thoroughly unhappy he was with being in this movie, much less the theme park, Adventureland.
Anna Faris is brilliant as the ditzy but earnest Playboy bunny who gets kicked out of the Playboy mansion to become the housemother to a band of misfit sorority girls. The movie is another version of the ugly duckling story set on a college campus. The plot may be a bit predictable but my 16 year old daughter and I laughed a lot! It was very funny!
