I watched this movie when it was originally released and have always been a fan of the "Star Wars" franchise. "Episode 1" is not my favorite due to the dialogue given to the young Anakin but love that Ewan McGregor was appropriately cast as the young Obi Wan and Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Gin. There were a few scenes where the 3D makes a difference, but I don't think it improved my experience tremendously. I will have to watch my copy on DVD but I think there is some extra footage.
My daughter wanted to watch this movie and I figured "Why not?" We've seen all the "Paranormal Activity" movies and other exorcism themed films, such as "The Last Exorcism" and "The Exorcism of Emily Rose". This film is mock documentary style with multiple cameras and shaky handcam work. The scenes with the exorcisms were scary moments, including showing the one girl in an impossibly contorted body, but there was a scene that I predicted would happen. There is action towards the end, but the ending throws everyone in the audience for a loop. The one phrase that sums up the ending: "That's it?!"
I really enjoyed this movie! The casting was perfect from Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy to Alan Alda etal!! I don't think that any of the actors/comedians overdid any of their roles. A fine ensemble cast. Highly recommend!!
This movie is a Pre-Prequel having the story of the two sisters before the first two Paranormal Activity movies. The movie starts showing scenes that are not quite from the second movie but give you the sense that it was about that time. There were lots of moments of suspense. I will say that I did jump during parts of the movie. Some will get annoyed by a couple of scenes are just setups. It is not a gory movie and that is probably what some are not happy about. That being said I probably will not buy the movie because once you've seen it there really is not much that will be a surprise on a second or third viewing. The casting was good; the actress who plays the mom (Julie Bittner) surprisingly looks like the actress who plays the adult Katie (Katie Featherstone) --even with similar facial expressions. Folks who are complaining about scenes in the commercials that are not in the movie means that the movie company wants you to buy the DVD for the "extras".
I was really excited to see this movie, for many reasons, especially for the hunky and adorable Chris Evans, who again plays a superhero (previously he played Johnny Storm/The HumanTorch in "Fantastic Four"). The story basically explains the background for Steve Rogers, a skinny kid from Brooklyn who wants to join the Army during World War II despite his physical failings.(The film obviously throws in patriotism as a theme.) It's no secret that he eventually becomes Captain America, but I will let viewers see for themselves the transformation. I recommend moviegoers stay to the end past the credits otherwise they will miss the teaser to next year's "The Avengers" which will feature superheroes seen in earlier films, including Thor, The Hulk and Ironman
The last movie in the book series franchise was pretty good. I reread the last book to refresh myself and while I did notice there were some differences between book and movie, they were not enough to ruin the storyline. I don't believe any movie adapted from a book is ever 100% true to its source. Although the movie was over 2 hours long, it certainly did not feel that way. The action moved pretty well. Fans will not be terribly disappointed.
The fourth movie in the series, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" does a nice job of keeping the action and adventure moving along. Ian McShane and Geoffrey Rush share the screen well as the opposing bad guys in this franchise, as Blackbeard and Barbossa respectively. Of course, the other match up that is done well is Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow vs. Penelope Cruz's Angelica. Some may lament the missing Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightley, but I didn't feel their presence lacking. Fans of the series will not be disappointed that the ending leaves room for yet another sequel.
This latest entry in the "Fast and Furious" series will sit nicely alongside the rest of the previous four. The story reunites Dom ( Vin Diesel), Brian (Paul Walker), and Mia (Jordana Brewster) and the rest of the gang as they go for one last heist, which pits them against a drug lord in Rio de Janero and the FBI agent (Dwayne Johnson) who is also in hot pursuit. Lots of fast cars, cars races, chases and explosions fill the screen. Oh yes and also lots of provocatively dressed pretty girls. Fans of the previous films will not be disappointed.
This alien invasion movie gets mashed up with "Call of Duty" and takes viewers along for the ride as Marines are called to rescue civilians caught behind enemy lines. Aaron Eckhart is the Staff Sergeant who is about to call it quits when the aliens attack and he must replace a vacationing First Sergeant. Eckhart does a good job of giving his Marine depth. While the other actors who play his fellow Marines do not stand out individually, you sense how they are supposed to be a cohesive unit. Michelle Rodriguez is support as an Air Force comm tech, who joins the jarheads. To say there were a few explosions in this movie is a definite understatement!!!
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost do it again, in this buddy movie of two guys from England who come to America to fulfill their dreams of going to Comicon and tour famous hotspots for alleged alien encounters. When they meet up with Paul, who is definitely not human, their world is turned upside down in more ways than one. This movie was extremely funny, with numerous references to "Star Wars", "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", "Star Trek" and "Aliens". A caution for those who'd want to bring the under 10 year old crowd, there is a lot of adult language in the film, along with sexual references and drug use, which may offend some.
