Being a Lewis Carroll lover, I was sceptcal, but Burton et al.do something wonderful here, and fully in the spirit of the originals.
Setting this more than a decade after Alice's original adventures, everything and everyone looks older, and the fantasy storyline is likewise more mature and darker, but the story is well connected to the original.and equally engaging.
I'd especially recommend this for all the Neil Gaiman fans out there (though they are probably most likely to see this film), It has all the wit and wonder of his story.
Not sure I'd recommend it for young kids--the young children in the theatre when I saw it were pretty subdued.
_Coraline_ also shows that 3-D has come a long way--and I look forward to further developments--but stay to the end of the credits!!!!!!
This is one of the most MOVING films I've seen in a long time, and this strikes me as odd, since the movie suggests that robots can teach humans how to live and love. Then, again, I guess SOMEONE (or thing) has to do it.
Looks like Disney's buy-out of Pixar is not as disastrous as I thought it might be.
