As much as I enjoy the pairing of Diane Lane and Richard Gere on screen, this one would have been better served to play on the "lifetime" channel. Dialog seemed contrived and unnatural in spots; minor characters were cartoon-like and predictable; cinematography could have better captured the unique and raw beauty of the Outer Banks; references to local lore and history were trite and forced at best. I've come to expect the Nick Sparks melodramatic unhappy ending but I still read the books and see the movies...darn it.
...wonderfully acted, funny, touching at times...The photography is inspired. Pullman and Rickman are on point as always. Chris Pine is a delightful young talent. What a refreshing change from the sensational blather than Hollywood is so fond of churning out these days.
