I have been a Green Lantern fan since I first heard of the charecter on Superfriends! I have wanted a live action movie for years. And finally, I got one, and seeing Hal, Sinestro, Kilowog and especially Tomar-Re on screen was amazing. There was action, but, for some reason, just not enough. I wanted to see more constructs pounding bad guys, more action with the Corp. Maybe it should have been 2 hours instead of 1:45.
I have never been so confused about a movie before. Not the plot, but my feelings for it. First of all, I have been a fan of Star Trek since 1973, This movie, I enjoyed because of the characters. A new version of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy are awesome. And for the most part, the rest of the cast were good too. The story makes sense most of the time, and sets up a new version of the Trek Universe which should be fun to explore. But, the STYLE of the movie bothers me. From horrible set design(the ship looks like a refinery) to anoying lens flair, shaking cameras, and bad science. The original and its sequels took great pains to make things believable. This movie flushes those ideas down a very large water pipe.
So many people are trying to hate this movie, even without seeing it, that there are going to be a lot of negative reviews. But this is a great Indiana Jones story. It has a different feel than the first three, different time, as well as an older star. But mostly, it is because it is a tribute to old 50 and 60s B-sci-fi movies and not the serials of the 30s. So there is the same cheesy story line, love story and sidekick you would see in those movies. Even a Tarzan thrown in. Young Indy on TV did not become a great hit, because it was different than the movies. But expect a great, fun adventure, in any format, and you will love this movie. And thanks, Steven, for using a tri-pod to shoot the movie action scenes, none of this modern shaking that passes for action sequences these days.
