The acting is terrible, like the last few Spy Kids movies. 3-D was ok. Smell-o-Rama cards didn't work. Maybe worth seeing if it's raining out. My kids are 10 & 12 and they were barely entertained. Might be time to admit that Rodriguez movies stink unless Banderas is in them.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Good effects, terrible story

I can excuse the lack of reality as much as anyone, but most of this movie is a joke. The battle scenes are good, not great, and the shaky hand-held cam makes it hard to "see". The plot, of this band of "brothers" trying to help civilians avoid a bombing run, falls apart quickly, and the rest is laughable. That said, Aaron Eckhart holds things together (with the exception of a "tear-jerking" scene toward the end that really slows things down).
I had read the graphic novel - so knew the story. fairly good re-telling, plenty of action. reasonably good. too long - but there was too much story to tell, and most of it is important. Kind of like "V" a few years ago.
Terrific movie! The directors/writers were able to keep Jack Black's genius in check, and the supporting cast is great. Obviously not a great plot, and easy to see where it's going, but still lots of fun.
