I've been a fan of the Harry Potter series both in print and on screen since it began, and I couldn't have been more pleased with the final movie installment. Of course the writers and director took some artistic liberties, but it was very tastefully done. Lots of action, but by far less violent than the previous film. This movie was definitely worth every penny, and whether you're a Potter fanatic or just mildly entertained by the series, it's a must-see.
Yes, as many have said, the book was better. But I don't think it's completely fair to hold the movies to the standard of the books -- the movies will never stand a chance.
This was the best of the Potter movies so far. There was a great deal of intense action; the actors have come so far in honing their skills and developing the characters' personalities; and the graphics were just incredible. The movie did drag in a few places, but I believe that was more a side effect of the overall length of the movie than a deficiency in its content. Overall, a fantastic movie, and as someone who has followed the series since the first book came out, I highly recommend seeing HP7.
Whatever you might have thought about Michael Jackson's personal life, you can't deny that he was the greatest entertainer of our time, and with the way music is going right now, perhaps of all time. This movie was riveting from start to finish -- I found myself wishing for more when the credits were done rolling. I got a bit teary at parts when I realized that a truly exceptional talent is gone for good; it was a tragedy to lose him. This film absolutely does him justice.
As a fan (read: die-hard fanatic) of the books, I was concerned about the amount of chopping the screenplay would undergo. However, the movie was incredible; it was the best so far in my opinion. A few small side plots were abandoned for the sake of the hunt for the horcruxes, but it wasn't a huge loss, cinematically speaking. The kids seemed more like actual kids in this movie than any of the others, and it kept a lighthearted undertone despite the gravity of the overall situation with Voldemort. Added bonus: the amazing Alan Rickman as Snape finally got the screen time he deserves. This movie is a must-see, even if you haven't read the books.
This was a really cute movie, and a naked Ryan Reynolds certainly didn't hurt my rating of it. Despite some predictability plot-wise, it was full of some great jokes and very cute moments between Bullock and Reynolds -- two very talented actors. Definitely go see it; it's not Oscar material, but it's great all the same.
If you're looking for a movie with substance, this isn't it. But if you want a movie to pop in and watch with your girlfriends with a bowl of ice cream, Bride Wars is spot on. Pretty predictable, but it has some great one-liners.
Liam Neeson was incredible in this film. Though it probably could have used an "R" rating, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This isn't your typical "daughter gets kidnapped, family tries to find her" movie -- it's full of action and devoid of cliches. Totally worth the blood and gore to see Neeson kicking butt.
This movie was absolutely wonderful. It had a good mix of action and plot, and the casting was well done. All of the actors had a great sense of humor and it showed that they had fun making the film. I'm definitely looking forward to the next installment in the franchise -- hopefully it will explain what this movie left out. My brother was a fan of the comics growing up, and he loved it, too, despite a few discrepancies.
This movie has a target audience - people who like fast cars and liked the original. If you aren't part of that target audience, you won't like it. Not just for guys -- I'm a woman and loved it. Much better than the other sequels and thrilling from the moment it starts.
The first part of the movie was absolutely fantastic -- really action-packed and a great plot. The last half hour or so really just dragged on. It was a bit too philosophical and the ending wasn't really satisfying (it was supposed to be an open-ended ending, and I appreciate that, but it still wasn't satisfying). Overall a pretty good flick.
