I didn't read the book ... which I had heard was very well-written and very graphic. So based on that AND the slick trailers AND the cast, I expected a real thrilling ride. What I got was a made-for-television 2 hour movie. Scenery was fantastic ... it was gruesome AT TIMES ( and yes, the male and female nudity was there for the R rating ). But i figured out whodunit early-on ... just not the " why. " I will buy the book now, based on its review. The movie: 3 bags of popcorn, no butter.
To sum-up D9: 1 part ALIEN, 1 part TRANSFORMERS, 1 part INDEPENDENCE DAY, and, 1 part documentary on human rights. I was a bit concerned during the promotional campaign - some of the commercials made D9 seem campy and cheesey. Far from it ! This is one intelligent, thought-provoking sci-fi flick with alot of violence ( ALOT ), incredible s\f\x, and a message. Question: Does Christopher return in 3 years ? Do you smell sequel ? 4 bags of popcorn, yes with butter.
I can say 3 things about PERFECT GETAWAY: (1) It is BEAUTIFULLY and TECHNICALLY done; (2) It isn't what I expected - there's much more to it; (3) There is a HUGE twist towards the end. Take note: it is definitely rated 'R' for a reason. Newlyweds go to Hawai'i for their honeymoon ... there's a murder ... and you need to wait through an hour of build-up to figure it out. But the build-up has twists and some comic relief along the way. Stick with it and the payoff is worth it. 4 bags of popcorn ... go have some fun.
With a wicked twist right at the very end, THE COLLECTOR sure feels like one of the SAW movies - but without the sometimes-hard-to-follow-made-up-plot-lines of the SAW movies. Don't get me wrong ... i am a HUGE fan of the SAW flicks. But THE COLLECTOR is a simple concept, and you can see the gestation of something more coming. There could have been another 5 minutes to explain a backstory ... but other than that small gripe - see this one on the big screen ! Poor kitty cat ! 4 bags of popcorn !
I never saw the original ... and maybe that's a good thing: because I didn't have a point of reference to compare this version to. Totally over the top action, Travolta over-acted perfectly, Washington under-acted wonderfully, and the script was updated just right. Leave reality behind when they rip your ticket stub ... grab a large bag and drink, and settle in for some raunchy language, crashes, and shoot 'em up's ! 4 bags of popcorns !
Let's cut right to the chase: we ALL had great expectations for T:S. It didn't live up to those expectations for lots of reasons. HOWEVER, if you LOVE the Terminator story ( not the schlocky F0X-TV series ), and, if you LOVE the special effects, and, if you LOVE non-stop action, then see this flick ! Yes - there is a bombshell of a scene with a cameo. And the storyline doesn't tell us about Sarah Connor ... so T5 is needed. ( Plus, all of those s\f\x can't go to waste ! ). In all, 4 out of 5 bags of popcorn.
This one flowed much easier than " Code " did - but I also thought " Code " was brilliantly made as well. Though A & D the book takes place before Code, the movies are flipped. Hanks' character is superb, as are the sets in Rome. Full of action, science, some humor, and more twists than a bag of pretzels - and this one movie you can't miss. Easy to follow.
Right from the opening credits, the action never stopped ! I was a little worried when the future met the present ( won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet ) ... but it all came together: action, suspense, humor, old-school Star Trek one-liners, a GREAT storyline, some fantastic casting, and of course, 2 or 3 more Trek prequel flicks to look forward to. JJ Abrams has done it again !
The headline says it all. I couldn't find a fault with this film. From the lighting to the cinematography, from the directing to the script, from the acting to the costumes, this film ( not movie ) is simply magical. Oscar noms for Pitt, Blanchett, BPOY, BDOY, the list goes on and on. Go see this one on the big screen with big audio - or you will be disappointed that you waited until you saw it on TV. A perfect 10.
Of the 5 SAW movies thus far, this is the 3rd best. But don't let that statement fool you. They all are awesome fun rides - but they all can't be equal. There will be a SAW VI ... even if there wasn't a reality TV show right now or the reports all over the internet. I wouldn't call the ending of SAW V so much of a cliffhanger, as much as a, " ok, we need to know more. " For instance, the " box. " If you saw SAW V, you pretty much know what's inside ... we just need to know how it fits into the story of SAW VI. The gore level of SAW V is a little less intense than in the past; but the storyline is much better. And, it is amazing how much of a back story there has been throughout the first 4 SAW's. This is a must-see for any SAW-freak.
