It's a shame

It IS a shame that someone like Katherine Heigl would take on such a demeaning role; she's MUCH better than this mess. In the first few minutes of the movie, Heigl's character seemed to be under control, professional, the one everyone came to for answers because she was confident and cool. I liked that; in fact, I respected that. But just ten minutes later I was shaking my head, depressed that this "strong woman" would hand her love life over to a vulgar (unwashed) idiot. Both Heigl and Butler should both be ashamed for lowering themselves to this degree. Rauncy cliches and painful, crass babble that cannot even begin to pass for a script made this a definite DO miss.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Finally, a REAL family film!

Four of us went to Penn Cinema to see this movie; our ages--56, 32, 13, and 12--and we ALL loved it! Finally, finally, a movie billed as a family film that really WAS a family film. No one got eaten, no one died, no one needed to swear, no "uncomfortable" scenes, and beyond THAT, it was FUNNY! The animation was unbelievable and the story resulted in many smiling "Ahhhs" from the audience. Take the family--take a date--take yourself--it's worth it!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Rip Off

"Delirium" -- well, that certainly tells the whole story because that was what I felt watching this absurd mess. I have always been a huge fan of Cirque and was very excited to see this movie, even inviting a friend to come along to experience what I thought would be a breathtaking performance. WRONG! At least 85 percent of this movie was music; if I wanted to listen to music I could stay home and not have to spend $20 to listen to music that made me want to rip my hair out of my head. Total rip off. My advice? Don't waste your money!
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Depressing

Overall, in one word, I found this movie depressing and poorly cast.
Obviously, I DO understand that the movie took place during the Great Depression but about half an hour into it, I was ready to go for a walk and probably not come back. I had two youngsters with me so that option was not available.
While I commend the producers for sensational historical accuracy, I felt that bits and pieces of the story were either overdone or just plain unbelievable. For instance, when Kit spoke with the editor, she was made to sound like a 25-year-old punk reporter instead of a 10-year-old little girl. The dialogue was lousy. There MUST be better child actresses and actors out there. As for Abigail Breslin, I am a HUGE fan of hers but in this movie I quickly became bored with her overacting. As for the "hobo" problem--WAY overdone. I suppose chidren under 12 will like the movie; as an adult, it was a long hour and a half...
No, I do not recommend this movie.
