Excellent movie, powerful (overdone?) message

I went into Avatar with low expectations, since most blockbusters have disappointed me lately. The 3-D effects and stunning colors instantly transfixed me, then the story crawled into my heart and took hold. Be aware -- if you are one of those Americans who thinks we have every right to attack other countries for stuff we want (oil, diamonds, etc) this movie will scream at you for your beliefs. Also, sometimes the director's political agenda gets in the way of the story, thanks to overly direct semantics (shock and awe? really?!). But if you're willing to open yourself up to this movie, it takes you on an emotional ride.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
