Since I am a fan of the books and the movies, and know them very well, I was not impressed with the movie. Mostly because the set for Hogwarts was changed drastically to fit into the movie adaptation and there was a bad look for a younger Alan Rickman. However, in some respects, I am glad that they stuck with the book's version, for the most part. Some of the fight scenes were very good, which is why I would recommend seeing it in 3D.
It was hilarious. It had moments of being slow at times, but kind of leads up to the craziness that they get themselves into, again. I just hope they don't make a third one and cause a letdown for the The Hangover series.
I enjoyed the movie as a whole. Jack Sparrow is back in using deceit, unbelievable escape plans, and charisma. I think what will be hard for fans is the switch of the main characters from the first three installments. If people remember this is a new set of movies with a few stable characters while going into the movie, then I think people will be able to enjoy it without trying to remember the first ones. Plus, it kind of goes back to Jack's adventure that he was setting out for when the third movie ended.
Although I have read all of the books more than four times each, it is still great to see the movie adaptation of the books. I think this one may be one of the best in the series, because it sticks a little closer to the book's storyline. It is unfortunate I have to wait about six months before seeing the second part, but this was a great lead-in the "end." A great movie.
Since there are not a lot of recent movies that have been original, it was good seeing one that is not a remake. Denzel Washington did an excellent job in his role, and it made me think a lot about the spiritual aspects of the movie.
This was a good movie, but there were times of corniness that led to bad acting. However, I would still recommend it for those that want to relive their childhood. Can't wait to the second one.
I read a review that indicated this movie was a placeholder to the seventh and eighth movies, and after seeing it, I agree. I think it was a good movie, but once the other movies come out, it will be understood why the sixth movie was completed this way. This has to be a lead-in to the excitement of the last movies. Now if the last movies don't accurately depict the seventh book, I will be very disappointed in the director and screenplay writer as I was in the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
