Well, I definitely thought this movie was half-way decent, but do NOT recommend reading the book before seeing it. I read the book shortly before this movie came out and they TOTALLY warped the ending. In my opinion the end was the best part of the book, and I was very disappointed. They also left a lot out about Jesse's character... I think it was interesting to see how Kate's illness affected him as well as Anna.
Overall, I think this movie can easily be enjoyed when one has not read the book. Or when one has the ability to treat the movie and book as separate entities. A tear jerker, definitely, though I didn't cry at all because I was expecting completely different ending....
Yes, I recommend this movie.

It's been quite a number of years since I've read this book, which, in my opinion, is probably a very good idea. I don't even have to re-read the book to know that this movie left out at least one major component. I thought it was ok, but the friend who I saw it with thought it was quite boring up until the last 30 minutes of the movie.
So, I suppose the question remains: Was it worth it? No, I certainly don't think this movie is worth paying the ridiculous amount charged for movies nowadays. And I would NOT recommend reading/rereading the book directly before seeing it as I suspect you'll be sorely disappointed. But overall I thought it was ok. Definitely some funny moments, and some cute stuff.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
