As a big fan of the original GET SMART series, I had no desire to see this movie because I felt no one could replace the original stars. However after both of my teenage children requested to see it (they had no familiarity with the series) I decided to give it a chance. I was pleasantly surprised and thought it was a good movie. It really is more of an action movie than comedy, but nonetheless, I thought the story was good as was the acting. It also was funny. If this movie had not been based on the television series, I believe the mainstream reviews would have been much better. It was worth the price of the tickets.
This is a tough movie to write about because the whole time I was watching it, I'm shaking my head thinking how stupid it was. But in the end, it actually had a message that I liked and appreciated that it subtly made us examine our stereotypes of people. It is also hard not to like Sandler's Zohan character. He's this tough guy who just wants to cut hair. It was funny, albeit in a silly way. The bottom line: If you want a movie where you don't have to think and you can sit back and just be entertained, then you should go see the Zohan.
Yes, I am a huge SATC fan...so I am biased. However, I was actually concerned whether or not they could pull it off. Not only did they pull it off, I loved this movie! It was true to the spirit and the characters of the movie and surprisingly, the running length didn't seem too long. The auditorium was packed which added to the excitement of seeing it. My only issue has to do with the opulent lifestyles these four women live. It almost seemed like it should have been set in the 80s. But that's being picky. This movie is about life, love, and hoping we all get to live "happily ever after." Go see it.
For the record, I'm not a particularly huge fan of the Indiana Jones series. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the movie much more than I thought I would. Yes, much of the plot was far-fetched, but hey so were the plots in the first three Indy movies. I don't understand why any would expect otherwise. As for the acting, Harrison Ford, Shia LeBeouf, and Karen Allen were fine. I did have issues with Cate Blanchett's Russian woman. Go see this movie on the big screen; it's the only way to see it.
