The Mayans didn't wear blue face paint!

People are lining up to laugh at the use of the crystal skull myth, and the idea of extra-terrestrial influence on Mayan culture.
The ET thing was a popular theory in the early 20th century, discredited by most modern research including the deciphering of a lot of Mayan hieroglyphs in the 1970s.
However, there are still some very striking and interesting allegorical and factual concepts played with in the movie.
Some people scoff at movies like 'Apocalypto' and 'Crystal Skull' but I find it interesting that these are the topics showing up in the public consciousness, no matter how the topics manifest or are handled.
Great movie, incidentally
