If you're a fan of Batman, superhero movies, or "Batman Begins", you probably don't need to be sold on going to see "The Dark Knight." If you're looking for a mindless popcorn flick, you'll have to look elsewhere. There is plenty of action and excitement in this film, but what sets it apart from most summer movies is that it has an intelligent and well written story and great acting. The overall experience will stay with you after you leave the theater. Several hours after watching the movie, my wife and I were still discussing things from the movie. We both agree that there is so much to digest in this movie that a second viewing almost feels necessary. You can read countless reviews about how great Heath Ledger's Joker is, so I won't belabor the point. All of the acting is good, but Ledger definitely shines. A big word of caution if you're thinking of taking young children to this movie. The Joker is scary, the violence is very realistic and at times brutal, and the story is complex. The movie isn't aimed at young kids, and I might extend that to even 13 and 14 year old kids. I would definitely think twice before taking them. At least see it for yourself first and make your own decision.
