Maybe the people who are giving it four and five stars just didn't really love the first three movies. If you had seen, grew up with, and loved Raiders, Doom and Crusade, there is not a snowball's chance in Africa that you would have liked this movie. Granted, there was an AWESOME chase scene and a pretty cool fight scene in the temple ruins.
The rest of the movie though...it was bad. Here are just some of the reasons:
1) quoting other movies in a movie ("knife to a gunfight")
2) horrible acting in the first 5 minutes
3) No N@zis...he needs N@zis
4) No good villian. Cate was good in her role, but it was a bad role.
5) Shia swinging through the jungle with CGI monkies
6) CGI groundhogs...seriously?
7) Aliens. This particular part made it a "jump the shark" moment for the series
In closing, the way that I see this movie is that they wanted to link Harrison Ford to Shia LaBeouf so that he could continue the series. Honestly, that doesn't bother me; I kind of liked the character. What this movie lacks is a reason to be connected to the artifact. Ark of the Covenant and Holy Grail are relics. Those little statues helped the village (although Doom wasn't much better). But the Alien doodoo was ridiculous and inexcusable. If you take the name Indiana Jones out of the title you end up with a 3-in-the-morning-SciFi-Channel movie.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
