Miley Cyrus is just starting as a dramatic actor. As such, she did a good job with the role. It took me about 15 minutes to stop seeing 'Miley' and get into the characters and the story. I have not read the book yet; however, I will now, particularly due to some other reviews I've read. The story was good, although I wished the characters had been fleshed out a bit more. I wish there were half-stars available - I would have gone to 3 1/2 for this one. By my standards, Star Trek got a 5 (should have been more!), so, while I enjoyed this film, it's not the everlasting best I've ever seen. I'll buy the DVD when it becomes available. There are a few relatively mild fight scenes, some possible implied drug use, and alcohol use.
What a pleasure the entire movie-watching experience was today. I loved everything about it. I will see this movie again and own it when it becomes available.
The character backstories were fun and true to the original series and beyond. The actors did a great job at creating the younger versions of characters we've 'known' for a long time. Seeing Nimoy in this role again was spectacular - as always.
It's one of the best new movies I've seen in years. People stood up in the theater and applauded at the end. It's been a long time since that happened.
Nice holiday time movie. I took the grandkids, ages 9 and 7 on opening day. We all enjoyed it. There was no fidgeting, asking to go do something else, trips to the restroom, whining or anything else. Nothing objectionable in the movie. I would think about your child's attention span on this one, though. This is not non-stop action every minute; your child should be able to follow a story without being shown everything in minute detail as some parts are told through narration. The values described in the film, particularly forgiveness, are good ones and they are explained so that a child can understand.
This movie will be part of our family movie collection when it becomes available for purchase.
