This Danny Boyle movie about a dirt-poor Indian orphan & his picaresque early life and rise to fame via a game show is a perfect mixture of everything I love in a film: I learned about the modern Indian culture by being visually immersed in the teeming world of Mumbai; I laughed; I gasped in shock; I came close to crying; I sat on the edge of my seat; I rooted for the underdog; and I got that love story and happy ending that Americans demand. There were even some action sequences and violence for those who require them and a Bollywood-style dance sequence during the final titles.Who would have thought that using the Indian version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" as the framework for a film would result in such a rich and rewarding work?
