Believe the hype about Jeff Bridges's performance in this film. He is beyond good, acheiving a level of physical alteration (without makeup) that is truly impressive. He also manages to make it just about comprehensible that someone like the Maggie Gyllenhaal character would fall for him by showing the character's charming, crazy heart. That said, I do long for the day when a broke-down 57-year-old man in a Hollywood film is redeemed by the love of a 57-year-old woman rather than a beautiful much younger girl-woman. Yes, it happens in life sometimes--but in movies it happens ALL the time.
Wouldn't skip the movie because of this though--Bridges's performance is truly not to be missed.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
