Ready for about 7 or 8 laughs? Hey! That's better than none right? Yeah, I understand that with the price of movie tickets these days, it may be too much of a risk. Well, I took the gamble, and lost myself in a pretty funny spoof of the Latin telenovela courtesy of Will Ferrell and the gang.
This one's got all the melodrama you'd come to expect from Spanish soap operas mixed with the jokes of a Saturday Night Live skit. And with Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna sharing the bill, it could even be titled "Y Tu Mamá's Casa También". Diego really fit the character in this film more so than the Panamanian gangster he recently played in "Contraband".
However, the subject matter of Mexican drug cartels is handled in an all too glamorous way, typical of Hollywood. And despite Gensis Rodriguez's beauty and performance, the subliminal Anglo male fantasy of dominating the Latin woman wasn't too cool, This all just justified the limited engagement of this flic.
But if you are up for a "Nacho Libre" style comedy that pokes fun at Hispanic culture and don't mind reading subtitles, then you might enjoy this feature.
"John Carter" is one movie not to be slept on! Hey! Wake up! I said "John Carter" is actually a really good flic!
Well, the title of this science-fiction adventure may not be that catchy. But the concept, story, and action are first rate!
Remember "Stargate"? Remember how cool that film was? This is like the 2012 version!
And talk about perfect casting for the Princess of Mars. Lynn Collins sets the screen on FIRE as Dejah Thoris! Despite the studio that brings you this movie, she ain't no Disney Princess! If you catch my drift!
So catch your "Z"s later and go and enjoy this one on the big screen!
This action packed sequel is an excellent time killer! And if you're looking for a great "B" movie to pass the night at home, then you'll most likely dig the DVD release!
However, if you are a comic-book-movie-geek like me, or a total sucker, and have to see this film on the big screen, then rest assured that Christopher Lambert the "Highlander" himself makes a guest appearance!
Not much else to say about this flic. It lacks what the first one had: a sophisticated story and a sophisticated mamacita: Eva Mendes!
When I was just a kid, there use to be a really cool cartoon on TV called "The Littles". It was about these cute little people-creatures and their adventures in an over-sized human world. "Arrietty" is very much like this story with the advantage of being on the big screen.
However, this Studio Ghibli picture is no "Ponyo". It's rather slow and the characters are typically one dimensional. But it is a good film for children and it's beautifully animated with touching and funny moments.
I'd say, it is definately worth watching on the small screen i.e. you'll probably get more out of the DVD release with all the special features.
This one really caught me by surprise! I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. Primarily because I thought Ryan Reynolds was just a TV actor. I was wrong.
Both he and Denzel light up the big screen with character. And the action and suspense will have you on the edge of your seat! Not to mention the twists and turns in the story that resemble a Six Flags roller coaster ride!
The backdrop of South Africa adds another dimension to this espionage thriller. While the supporting cast just make this film complete!
If you haven't been through hard times, you might take the basic pleasures and fundamental relationships of life for granted. A movie like "The Grey" will help remind you of what life is really worth.
Remember "Cast Away" with Tom Hanks? Well instead of getting stranded on an island, Liam Neeson and a cast of colorful characters get plane wrecked and lost in an artic no mans land, with hungry wolves on their tails!
The story is about as depressing as "The Road" but with a sense of adventure and survival. It explores the concept of Man vs Mother Nature in a raw and real way. And when death, cold, and starvation are on your heels, there is no turning back!
You won't freeze to death watching this flic. But you will count your blessings after seeing it!
Red Tails delivers the goods! It's got great story, characters, and visual effects! All in all, it had me engaged and entertained completely!
As a long time fan of Black Cinema, it was refreshing to see this type of film on the big screen! Not since Spike Lee's "Miracle at St. Anna" have I enjoyed a cinematic adaptation of Black History!
The entire cast is stellar! And the Wu-Tang Clan's Method Man plays a wise crackin' soldier.
Terence Blanchard's dynamic score helps bring the drama home too!
Remember "Top Gun"? Well, this film takes it to the next level! In the words of Public Enemy: "Brothers Gonna Work It Out!"
Are you ready to rumble with Mark Wahlberg?! 'Cause this movie is off the chain!
From beginning to end, you'll be hooked into the heist! Action, story, and cinematic style are all here!
And what a cast! Giovanni Ribsi is a total psycho and delivers a stellar performance! While the lovely Kate Beckinsale plays a wife unwillingly caught up in the "underworld" of smuggling!
Contraband is an intense, edge-of-your-seat crime caper not to be missed!
I really hope people read the Tintin graphic novel series after seeing this film. It is much better than the movie.
Sorry Spielberg but I like the witty and talking Snowy from the comics. And when characters like Tintin get the opportunity to have thought balloons, they don't sound so idiotic speaking to themselves.
Granted, the plot moved and the action scenes were fun to watch. But the animation of the characters' eyes could have been more life like. Tintin resembled a puppet more than a real human.
Then there is the matter that as an investigative reporter, Tintin didn't do any reporting. And he had no real flaws to overcome. As a matter of fact, the pay off at the end didn't really pay off. I was left hanging and feeling unfulfilled.
Oh! I've said too much! I don't want to totally spoil it for you. MI4 gives more bang for your buck! Go see Tom Cruise and the gang take on nuclear terrorists instead!
