I was completely entertained by this movie! It had it ALL: clever story, quirky characters, hilarious moments, and a plot that unraveled!
Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer performed to perfection! While Tim (Planet of the Apes) Burton proved that he is an old hand at making a classic TV series into an engaging motion picture!
Two thumbs up and a HOOT HOOT!!
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, great costumes & makeup
I'm sure if Walt Disney was alive today, he would be very proud of The Avengers! It's a perfect superhero movie for the kids and it'll probably rake in lots of dough for the studio.
Considering all the hype that surrounded this flic before it opened, I was expecting a little more. And without a central character, it was hard for me to emotionally connect with any one hero. That said, and I'd prefer not to whine, the fight scenes and action sequences were off-the-chain! Not just heroes against villians but heroes versus heroesl
The entire cast was AWESOME! Scarlett Johansson was a total FOX! With all the testosterone flying around, she definately put in the estrogen that balanced out the team! Mark Ruffalo is probably the BEST Dr.Banner/ Hulk to date! His performance was gripping! And Robert Downey Jr. was a real riot! His scenes and lines were simply hilarious! While Samuel L. Jackson took the token part and gave him strength and conviction!
The Avengers is a fun culmination of the solo comic book heroes we've seen to date on the big screen! I can't wait to see Marvel's The Black Panther and Luke Cage make their motion picture debut as well!
That's what I would have said before watching "Safe", a gripping and intense action adventure starring The Transporter himelf...Jason Statham!
As it turns out, I've known about Boaz's work for years! From "Fresh" to "The Prince of Persia" he's left his mark of cinematic excellence! And in this flic, homie takes it to another level!!
I was on the edge of my seat, hootin' and hollerin' (at the right moments of course) and clapping my hands with the rest of the audience! Full of colorful characters and an engaging story, this was rough and tough cinema at its best!
Visually stunning and crafted in a fresh way, Boaz Yakin really put his signature on this one! The way he constructed scenes was amazing!
Not to mention Statham and the fight choreography. There ain't no old school Kung Fu going on here! This is real current UFC style fighting packed with a severe punch!
The biggest surprise for me in this movie was hearing the smooth, sexy accent of Cutlass Liz! I immediately recognized the voice talent behind the character! The one and only Salma Hayek!!
If you enjoyed her in "Puss in Boots" then you'll get a real kick out of her as a swashbuckling caribbean mamacita!
The Jamaican accent pirate leader and The Albino and Surprisingly Curvaceous Pirate were new takes on the big screen pirate experience!
The animation was very creative and well executed! The plot slowed down a bit in the middle of the movie. However, the ending quickly picked up and was rather exciting!
As I sailed off into the sunset, I said "Bravo!" to this adventurous piece of Pirate Cinema!!
This film plays like a well written book! Maybe that's because it's based off of Steve Harvey's best selling guide to relationships. With that as the source material, and a stellar cast, I was thoroughly entertained!
The laughs are pretty non-stop throughout. Not to mention the plethora of beautiful Black women! They just lit up the screen!
Tim Story did an excellent job creating a piece of contemporary cinema. With all its acting, scenes, and locations, it still felt like an honest slice of life! And I could relate to the characters in more ways than one.
People are generally looking for good relationship advice. This flic is a joy to watch, hilarious, and a great place to start!!
This movie would have been cool about 20 years ago and starring Sylvester Stallone! Today it plays like a contrived action flic with no real substance.
I thought Guy Pearce would have done justice to the roll. I was wrong. This is nothing like any of his previous work.
I couldn't connect to the story and as a result couldn't feel for any of the characters.
Luc Besson's concept of a prison in space is creative. Unfortunately, all the other elements that make a film great are missing! You want to see an awesome action flic? Check out The Raid: Redemption!
Holy cow!! I just saw this flic. I went entirely on word of mouth. "Great martial arts film!" is what the guy at the donut shop told me. Then, on Facebook, a friend raved about the action! Personally, I was blown away!!
"The Raid: Redemption" has got the suspense and raw violence that John Woo movies were known for. Combine that with the martial arts you would expect from classic Jackie Chan! It's not for the weak at heart but if you are ready for a blood bath this one is for you!
Don't worry about the subtitles, 'cause there really isn't much to read. The visuals tell it all in a gripping and entertaining way!
Writer/ Director Gareth Evans and the films star Iko Uwais are the new dynamic duo of Asian cinema! This movie is a much needed supplement to the American moviegoing diet! Thank you Indonesia!!
It amazes me how REAL fiction can seem when done RIGHT! In "We The Party". Mario Van Peebles crafts an intense highschool drama that captures the spirit and essence of youth! And just like the Wayans Brothers, he's brought the entire family along for the ride!
This flic is great for the young and a flash back for the old school. I could relate to a time when house parties, hangin' with the homies, and scoping out the chicks, were my main focus.
Van Peebles lets you see LIFE from the Black, White, and Latino perspectives which is really hip! For a while I was wondering where the "New Jack City" director went. It's good to have him back.
The supporting cast in this picture is packed with 'hood essentials from Snoop Dogg to "Friday's" Tiny Lister a.k.a the infamous Debo! And Salli Richardson-Whitfield who plays a principal in this film, and who also co-starred in Mario's "Posse" looks as gorgeous as ever!
I wound up seeing this movie at the Baldwin Hills Cinemas just blocks away from where scenes were filmed. I couldn't have chosen a better theater as I sat in the audience amongst a community of moviegoers, feeling like a part of the party!
A sequel to "Clash of the Titans" is a pretty creative idea! Thanks to the good people at Warner Brothers, that idea became an entertaining reality! Could this mean sequels to such films as "The Last Airbender"? Well. I guess I shouldn't push it.
In any event, Sam Worthington returns as the (half man/ half god) hero determined to save the mortal world. And with the excellent supporting cast of Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes, you get your dose of quality acting!
This flic is a simple adventure with a few hidden surprises along the way. You don't need a road map, because it is a very predictable journey. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!.
I haven't read the book yet. And I really wasn't planning on seeing the film. It was the weekend box-office which got my attention. This, and the amazing fact that no big named actor was headlining this apparent blockbuster!
Now how could a film based off of a Johnny-Come-Lately novel exceed “John Carter” five times? Simple. Targeting the right audience. Thanks to the film adaptations of "Twilight" and "Harry Potter", Hollywood is an old hand at dishing out what the teen public want to see. And that’s seeing themselves on the big screen!
Jennifer Lawrence is one tough cookie! She holds her own against such great actresses as Sigourney Weaver. Not to mention the stellar supporting cast which make this movie complete!
Cinematically, the action, drama, and romance are weaved together with mastery, without excessive special effects distracting from the core story.
I was pleasantly reminded of the Japanese manga series "Battle Royale", which tells the tale of a class of junior high school students who are forced to fight each other to the death. Not the most uplifting subject matter. And not the best material for youngsters. But "The Hunger Games" does reflect the grim reality many youth face due to competition and even racial conflicts amongst each other.
This ain’t no Disney family film. But it’s definitely worth seeing!
