This movie was timely, moving without being overly manipulative, beautifully directed (nearly "first person" when it needed to be), and AMAZINGLY acted! It was based on a true story (as they always say), but there was no happy ending, no perfect tie up of the main themes since we're still waiting for that in real life regarding this subject matter.
Sean Penn and Naomi Watts were simply perfect-- never under- or overplayed the roles. Very thought-provoking movie for someone of my age (under 30) and probably even more so for someone a little older who was more aware of these events than I was at the time.
Needless to say, I very much recommend this movie to any American especially, as well as people of other nationalities who are interested in the post-9/11 mentality and actions in the U.S.
"Wow!" is a word you're going to be hearing a lot in conjunction with "The Dark Knight". It was bigger, broader and better than the previous film. And yes... Heath Ledger was spellbinding. Being a Gary Oldman fan, I was glad to see they incorporated Jim Gordon a lot more.
The social commentary was great, the stunts were spectacular, and pretty much every performance was memorable!
