To quote another user review " This movie turned out to be alot more than what I expected" , would be the best way to describe this movie. The real cincher was Tom Cruise in a totally unexpected and out of charachter role, which had an effect that the film makers surely intended. Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr. and all the rest of the actors gave performances that were well suited to this very funny slapstick comedy.
This movie is both very funny and quite ridiculous at the same time. That might sound like a contradiction of sensibilities, but perhaps that is what " Grade A " slapstick comedy is really all about. If you have ever been acquainted with; Mary Jane, grass, pot,Ganji, sens, weed, skunk, ect, ect, ect,( I have never actually inhaled of course) then you just might get an inexplicable urge to purchase a Tie Dye T Shirt after viewing this flick.
For the life of me, I can not understand why this movie received so many very poor reviews. The acting and screen play were par for the course in a production starring Brendan Fraser(superficial plus completely predictable), but the visual aspects of this movie were really quite stunning and Jet Li delivered the goods as he usually does. All in all this movie was "REALLY NOT THAT BAD"(for a tall tale) and I did enjoy seeing it.
What could I possibly say to accurately reflect the cinematic prowess of the people responsible for making this movie ? The acting, photography, special effects and stunt work are all on a level much higher than one would normally associate with a comic book adventure. Add a sprinkling of gratuitous Morgan Freeman sentimentality, with an absolutely brilliant portrayal of The Joker by Heath Ledger and the result is a cinematic experience that you won't soon forget. See this movie.
Once you accept the underlying stupidity of this movie, one can not help but to be impressed with the incredible sword fighting scenes and good special effects. There are also some genuinely emotional moments and some humorous ones too. Great Movie? No. Is it worth seeing if you enjoyed the first Hellboy? Yes.
The special effects, photography, and production of this movie are very good. The individual scenes are well played out skits, however, for me, the overall storyline looses focus and momentum about 3/4's of the way into the movie. Like a symphony that has a good intro and main section ,but then rushes through the finale, I can't help but think that this movie could have been much better. Despite these shortcomings, I still found this flick to be an enjoyable movie going experience.
It' hard to imagine how hollywood could have possibly resurrected the "Vibe" of an old television series like "Get Smart", but that is exactly what was accomplished with this flick. Steve Carell nails the part of Maxwell Smart to a "T" and somehow manages to breath new life into the old corny jokes from the TV series. If you grew up watching "Get Smart" on a rabbit ears equipped black and white television set-- your gonna like this movie---Well, would you believe Chuck Norris with a BB gun...???
This is basically a funny movie. In the grand tradition of " Dr. Evil " and " Fat Bas@@@d ", Mike Myers has meticlously crafted a fictitious icon and added his own blend of sarcasm and humour. I would have given this movie a higher rating, if only Mr. Meyers had nailed an Indian accent better( in a funny way) which he didn't.
