Assisted by a great soundtrack, over-the-top lyrics, and equally matching dialogue, this spoof is a generally riot throughout. An outlandish performance by Russell Brand as fading rock star. Aldous Snow, and an eye-popping, "caught-in-the-headlights" turn by Jonah Hill (Junior Studio Executive, Aaron Green, combine for a chemically pleasant balance which carries the film. With some reminders of Brand's eccentricities in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", director, Judd Apatow, gives the film some real chutzpah as it goes along. With his witty, though, foul-mouthed utterances, Sean "Puffy" Combs (Studio Boss, Sergio Roma) adds some welcome scene stealing moments. Although raucous and raw, this one is a sure bet to please many an audience!
Whether he be known as Longstride or Locksley, this "Robin"(Russell Crowe) is more of an elongated primer to the more fun versions of the popular tale. The "Merry-men of Sherwood" scenes, with which we are more familiar, are not seen until the last reel -- almost as if it is a teaser to a possible sequel. Crowe seems more like a straight man to the more interesting roles played by Blanchett (Marion), von Sydow (Walter Loxley), and Addy (Tuck), et al... Too much talk and not enough action impede this version and over-extend its length to the near-tedium level. A strong PG-13 rating for violence leaves it too severe for some.
Morel light-hearted than Version One, Downey and company tongue-in-cheek their way through this action/comedy romp, clearly, more fun than its predecessor! Assisted by less frequent pyrotechnics and other such "effects" -- until the very end -- the film succeeds in truly entertaining by using just the right dialogue and acting to pull off a more pleasing result that should please most of its fans as well as newbies to this genre of film. Recommended for adults, too!
It's hard to imagine such a younger pair of the legendary super sleuths, but, somehow, Downey and Law pull it off! Their quirky, comic style makes this version quite palpable. Full of martial arts skills, the pair adroitly meet their foe (Mark Strong) in the role of a foil for the always nefarious "Moriarty" (barely seen) as he(they) lead them through a sometimes serious but, comical chase through London's city streets. The occult plays a key role for both the problem and solution of the final riddle. A fun version of the traditional, if that's your suit!!
Making use of as many satyric moments as possible, Quentin Tarantino pulls few punches, lets some blood flow, and fills the screen with fast-paced gory, yet funny, with 2 1/2 hours of non-stop drama, action and, satire! Brad Pitt leads a revengeful pack of German-haters, who literally "take no prisoners"! Great casting, acting, direction(Tarentino) and film editing create one of Quentin's most memorable opi!
This sequel, while revealing some essential pieces of the puzzle, takes a boring forever doing it! "Magical Moments of Wizardry" have become few and far between the extremely laborious, slow developing plot. I realize that the book ads even more detail, but somewhere, there must be a way to shorten the length of this lumbering 2 and a half "E-pic"!! Surely, there must be a way to edit this modern classic into a more enjoyable opus!!
A well-crafted movie based on the popular book of the same name. Lots of action and clever plot turns, as this fun flick takes you to several colorful locales and times to create a very entertaining adventure film -- suitable for all ages. Sort feels like Harry Potter meets Alice in Wonderland. Should keep audiences on the edge of their seats often! Principal cast does well, particularly, Helen Mirren as a colorful great aunt. Brendan Fraser is appealing as the yarn unraveller who keeps all together to bring the tale to a grand conclusion.
Showing the softer side of Genghis Khan is no mean accomplishment! "Mongol" does it best to do so by introducing an affable young wife, who actually chooses him. Despite his revengeful tactics (no doubt, a product of Mongol tradition), Khan manages a tendency to protect families by not exposing them to the brutalities of war. Good, colorful portraits of gory battle scenes show the clever tactics which brought Genghis to fame and, eventually, Commander-in-Chief of all Mongol Clans. Although sub-titles distract somewhat from the enjoyment of the film, this is a picture worth seeing for history buffs and people who enjoyed "Brave Heart".
What a delightful change-of-pace picture to contrast with the frenetic "Mamma Mia" and "Dark Knight" blockbusters opening in mid-July. Warm, fast-paced, funny, touching -- purely a good time for all generations!! Imagine producing a Love Story between 2 robots a making it believable!! I hope all who haven't seen this one will make tracks to their closest theater to do so. You won't be disappointed.
Using an effective Israeli accent, Sandler creates an amusing, if not, at times, raucus character while transitioning from an Israeli " super-terrorist" to his dream of an American hairstylist. With the help of a great cast, including Rob Schneider as a former rival Arab adversary, an American-adopted "mom ", Lainie Kazan, and and an all-too-brief cameo by Dad (Shelly Berman), this clear spoof of Israeli-Arab relations becomes quite funny and, at times, touching. While sometimes slap-schtick and crude , but it more than makes up for it with it's wit and otherwise good humor!!
