Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill, a terrific script, and a beautiful pace, make a terrifically funny, gritty and touching tale of real-life story-telling that becomes a thoroughly enjoyable film, -- not to be missed! Even if you don't give a hoot about baseball ,clearly, you should enjoy this fully-absorbing time at the movies!!
Director, Fred Cavaye' brings us the" Best Foreign Thriller of 2011!!' In y less than 90 minutes, the audience is virtually running-along with the characters in this film at break-neck speed. At the start, we see Sartet(Roschdy Zem), a career thug, being chased by 2 armed assailants and violently hit by a motorcycle and the pair trying to kill him. Hospitalized, Sartet's life is saved by a nurse, Samuel(Gilles Lellouche), who thwarts another attempt on Sartet's life. At home, Samuel is knocked unconscious and his pregnant wife, Nadia(Elena Anaya) is kidnapped. Samuel is told to get Sartet out of the hospital or else!! This starts the frenetic chasing that continues almost non-stop until a mostly satisfying end occurs... or does it? With the exception of a few Ouch, violent, moments, this film is well-paced, directed and acted.Point Blank is not for the squeamish, but holds up well for the action-adventure that it is!!
If this film's makers could have decided what kind of movie it should be, we might have had a better 2 hrs in our seats! Director, J.J Abrams can only do so much with a pic that can't decide if it is a coming-of age story, a nostalgia piece, or an alien tale. The casting is well done, but it's the hodgepodge script that gets in the way! A typical Spielberg(co-producer) group of pre-teens are, this time, attempting to shoot a homemade horror film of their own when a tragic train wreck interrupts and adds some flavor and consequences of its own. Three outstanding performances include Joe Lamb, as Joel, who plays the son to Kyle Chandler's Deputy Sheriff Courtney and Elle Fanning's romantic appeal to the group, hold our interest for a time, but are held back by a razor-thin plot that just doesn't hold up!!
Kenneth Branagh directs this comic book classic with just the right blend of humor and drama. 3-D Effects are, for the most part, appropriate and justifiable. Well-cast! Fast-paced! Fun Journey!
After over half a century since it was first published, we, finally, are able to see this classic magnum opus on the big screen! It was well worth the wait! Meticulously true to the novel, this production subtly tells this important story of BIG Government's meddlesome intrusion into Individuals' rights versus The Feds' always altruistic view "for the better good". Great special effects and subtle, low-key acting help paint this dramatic, telling story of how free-will must contend and survive against a punitive, nonsensical group illogical, bungling bureaucrats/politicians -- their hamstringing rules and regulations! The principal Good guys, railroad magnate, Dagny Taggart , and steel producer, Han Rearden, give us strong, noble portraits of self-determination and resistance against seemingly overwhelming odds!! Considering the irony of how things are now, Rand fans should be both relieved and pleased this telling cat is now being "let out of the bag"!!! This was only Part 1. I can't wait for Parts 2 and 3!!
Touching, fast-paced thriller bound to receive at least an Oscar nod. Courageous woman "bets-it-all" in her all-out belief in a super horse. A flip of a coin luckily starts a series of legendary decisions, which ultimately determine the fate of this iconic, wonderful stead. Well-directed, beautifully cast -- John Malkivich, Diane Lane, etc... make for a great 2 hr adventure that all can enjoy!!
Now in first run, we have two films concerning Facebook!'
This one is a kind of "Cinema Verite' about a curious group of young men pursuing their curiosity around a rather attractive artist, who calls herself "Abby", accompanied by an attractive Facebook picture of her.
After discovering a rather suspicious misrepresentation by "Abbie", the fellows decide to embark on a surprise visit to a small Michigan town to investigate.
Their suspicions are confirmed when they discover their undelivered postcards near an abandoned farmhouse.
When they attempt to surprise "Abbie", they are confronted by several other "surprises" which further both the plot of the movie and the mens' plight to the truth.
While amusing and funny in the first half, the movie takes a number of reality plot twists and turns when the men venture to meet Abbie, bringing some sadness and a lot more seriousness to the table.
The final resolution of this saga should be serve as both a warning and a "caution sign" to Facebook fans! For what it is "Catfish" deserves a visit, particularly if you are into Facebook!!
Leonardo di Caprio is the dynamic gravitational pull and the only glue that attempts to piece this psychological puzzle together. This one is a bit long but the dazzling visuals help make the time seem shorter. Although the ending "appears" happy, with this picture, one never can be sure if what seems to be is the "true" finale of "seem"! Worth a second visit to the theater for more understanding. Or, wait for the screenplay, which comes out this September for public consumption..
As Andy prepares for college, taking his favorite doll. Sheriff Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) and the rest of the toys are being donated to a day-care center. However, this seemingly perfect transition isn't so perfect at all and, Woody must find a way to rescue his buddies from the dilemma. "Toy Story 3" is a hilarious, clever and poignant rendition of the franchise for all to enjoy. Director Lee Unkrich and the Pixar staff have created another animated prize for a unique vehicle that consistently produces winners! The added 3-D is actually superfluous, as the production qualities of this film are more than sufficient to carry the production. The action is fast and furious and the dialogue is at its usual high level . Additional characters include Michael Keaton as Ken, of Ken and Barbie fame, and Ned Beatty as nemesis, teddy bear, Lotso. These and all the voices bring each character a memorable life. A second trip to pick-up lost details of this adventure may be well-worth it!
Although it is over 2 hours, there is plenty of action and sentimentality for all. As Jaden Smith's(Dre) first turn at a starring role, he doesn't disappoint. Although some scenes are, at times, implausible, as martial arts films are, Smith and Jackie Chan(Dre's "Sen-se"), pull off a pleasant and touching relationship. Colorful vistas of China add an extra dimension of enjoyment. Whether you are a fan of the original or not, you should find that this version retains many of the essential elements of it. There is some expected violence, but this picture is quite suitable for most audiences.
