Going in I wasn't sure what to expect of Shutter Island. Just watching the movie, you knew something wasn't quite right with the investigation and the lack of cooperation Leo and Ruffalo's characters were getting from the prison staff. It wasn't until the very end, that everything from the very start of the movie made sense. This is one of those movies that are great to see a second time around. Terrific movie from Scorsese and great performances from both Leo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo.
Not M. Night Shyamalans best work but still an overall solid thriller. It's follows in the fashion of his other movies in that their not about blood and guts, but more of a mental roller coaster. He blends in a small amount of humor to mix things up which is just fine. Wahlberg is great in this movie and I think just adding him in, helps any movie become instantly more watchable. If you're a fan of M. Night Shyamalan movies, you'll probably enjoy or at least appreciate this one as well. It's certainly a different type of movie which is refreshing in this day and age of remakes, sequels and comic book creations.
