Poor Bryce Dallas Howard....she picked a bitch role again. I may never be able to see her as a good character again because she really inhabited this one and made me want to punch her lights out. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is outstanding as a young man with cancer, Anna Kendrick shines as his therapist. Seth Rogen was a little much, being his slobby, obnoxious self, until the end when he does some wonderful things for his friend. Go see this one, cry your eyes out, then be good to your friends and lovers 'cause that's what really counts.
What a triumph! There will be many who love the books who will say this or that was left out, but I think this was an amazing movie and amazingly faithful not just to the contents of the book but to its spirit. These young actors have grown so much. I will watch this movie again and again. Enjoy!!
My comic-book-geek husband kind of liked this one. If you've collected 'Green Lantern' comics since the age of 6, you might like this one. Everybody else will be disappointed. The 'plot' is stupid, poor Ryan Reynolds looks trapped in a role he wishes he hadn't taken, and Blake Lively simply takes up space. PLEASE let this series die before anyone can make the promised sequel.
Yes, it's part 'ET' part 'Goonies' part 'Alien' but it's a wonderful movie. The landscape shots are gorgeous, the surprises had me jumping out of my seat, and the kids are just right. Yes, there are some huge plot holes, but I enjoyed this one too much to quibble. I rather watch 'Super 8' 4 times a day than ever sit through another 'Pirates of the Caribbean' again.
I enjoyed the 1st 'Pirates' movie, but the sequals have not been worth my time. Barbosa died in the 1st film...why is he still around for each sequal? As much as I love Goeffrey Rush, I'm so tired of his character I could scream. There is just way too much thrown at the screen in this movie; the 'plot' feels like so much spaghetti thrown at the wall to see what will stick. Even Johnny Depp no longer seems to be having as much fun as usual. Please let this be the end.
What a movie! As a fan of the books, I'm always a little concerned that my favorite parts of the book won't make it onscreen. There is so much in each book that you'd need a miniseries to really cover each and every plot twist. But Steve Kloves has done an excellent job of getting all the most important stuff in, and even adding a scary scene or two that weren't in the book. I knew what was going to happen and this movie still made me jump. The depiction of Draco Malfoy in this movie is heartbreakingly good, and if Alan Rickman doesn't get an Oscar nom for this film or the next one there is no justice.
This was the funniest, crudest movie I've seen in a long time. It was absurd, hysterical, lewd, crude, and so much fun! I wouldn't buy this movie - I couldn't have it in my house around my kids - but it was a great adult comedy. I haven't laughed this hard in forever, but be forewarned. There are no words for how explicit this movie can be. It gleefully crosses all lines of good taste. There are a few stills in the credits that I would have thought merited an 'X' rather than the 'R' it has. If you are easily offended, skip this one.
Why is it that Pixar can gently show us truths that other studios can't or won't? They show us how important family is, how important connections to the ones we love are, how important it is to take care of our world and each other. And when Pixar does it, they make money. Perhaps because they make movies that speak to kids without talking down to them, and speak to adults without being crass. I cried through this whole movie at the love old Mr. Carl showed for his wife during her life and for her memory during his adventures. I can only hope my husband and I have that kind of love, and I hope you and your significant other can share that kind of love as well. Go see this movie with someone you love.
As a proud Trekker, I was a little worried about what JJ Abrams might do to my beloved Star Trek. There was no need to fear. This movie was FANTASTIC!!! A clever time travel plot twist makes this Trek an alternate time line from the get go, giving Abrams and company license to remake all sorts of things and not have to worry about continuity with the original series. Chris Pine was just right as the young Kirk, Simon Pegg hilarious as Scotty, and I might even get used to Syler as Spock. Might. So see for yourself - even if you aren't a Trekker, you will have a great time!
