Overall, this movie was pretty much the same as the first in the series. It pulled a Pirates of the Caribbean by creating the formula in the first movie, then improving it in the second, with just as many rum jokes that get old really fast. The action was much improved, as the makers clearly knew exactly what PG could and couldn't do, all the while clearly pushing MPAA's buttons. The acting was improved, especially in the four main children, however this seems to be due to better writing than improved performances. The characters have flaws and growth, other than the simple learn your lesson feel of the first film. The fact that it's advertised as a childrens movie is a bit weird, as, while there's no blood and guts and whatnot, there are some seriously dark elements to the story that must be kept in regard, however it is played in the sense that 'your kids are young, but they can handle this. its teaching a lesson.' its an excuse, but the older audiences will be thankful. it's worth seeing in theatres, with good cgi elements and cool action. eddie izzard as reepicheep is a beast.
