Overall, the film was good. I am a big fan of the books and so I was disappointed to see events and hear dialogue that was not a part of the original book. I feel that it veered away from the book more than Harry Potter or LOTR. Still, there was a lot of action and it was quite entertaining. I was surprised by the violence and death - it was not gruesome at all, but it didn't seem like PG-violence.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
