The biggest thing that struck me about Indy IV was how different it is. Many parts are like the original trilogy, but the sci-fi element makes it feel very different. After you get used to the idea of aliens in an Indiana Jones movie you can really enjoy this one. The CGI didn't bother me, I thought it was used very well. It may seem like the dialog wasn't great, since people can easily quote the first three but not this one, but you have to consider that we've had 20 years to watch the old ones and memorize the famous lines. Many people went into this movie with outrageously high expectations, expecting it to be a new Raiders, so it's no wonder they were disappointed. Look at this movie for what it is- a fun sequel, just as fun as the other 2 sequels. I recommend a second viewing. It seems better the second time.
