Faced with the insurmountable difficulty of updating and refreshing a beloved classic that was groundbreaking for its time, the team behind Tron Legacy has absolutely succeeded. Stunning visuals, good story, an overall excellent movie experience.
James Cameron, a man known for event films of an incredible scale, has simply outdone both himself and everything that has come before him with the release of Avatar. Visually stunning, an engaging storyline, and a 3-hour movie that leaves you wishing it were twice as long - Avatar is everything that cinema was made for.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Spike Jonze is a gift!

Within the first five minutes of this movie, I began to cry. Not because it was sad, but because Spike Jonze managed to capture so perfectly what it is to be a child, and then to translate that to film for an adult audience. This os the most perfect film adaptation of all time, and so brilliantly done, especially when one considers the brevity of the source material.
I preface this review by saying that I'm a huge fan of the musical Mamma Mia. That said, this poorly cast and disappointingly sung flight of cinematic fantasy pales in comparison.
Amanda Seyfried never becomes as lovingly playful as her character is written, every line on Meryl Streep's wizened visage merits its own close-up shot and Pierce Brosnan's vocals never achieve the fatherly tenderness and loverly passion they're aiming for, settling instead for intermittent comic relief which I can only believe was not intended by the filmmakers.
